Jets Prospect Update – November 15th, 2016

Michael Spacek continues his dominance of the WHL this week. Let’s check out how everyone performed in the prospect update.

Jansen Harkins continues to up his assist totals this week, now at 15 assists in 15 games to go along with 4 goals. Harkins had a pair of highlight reel primary assists in a 7-0 dismantling of the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday.

Matteo Gennaro recorded all 3 points in a 3-1 win over the Thunderbirds on Friday, assisting on the first two goals and adding an empty netter. 

Jordy Stallard was held pointless this week. The 3-1 win over the Thunderbirds on Friday was followed by a devastating 9-2 loss to the Winterhawks the next day. 

Michael Spacek continued his WHL dominance this week, putting up 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 3 games played. He is currently tied for 5th in WHL scoring with Chad Butcher and 2017 draft eligible Nikita Popugaev. So far this season, Spacek has contributed toward 37.5% of team goals on his way to a 72 game pace of 108 points. If he continues this pace, he would double last year’s point total. Spacek is also tied for 2nd in the WHL with 23 primary points. Only 4 of his 15 assists have been secondary.

Logan Stanley scored his first of the year this season on his 31st shot. Now at 36 shots, this gives Stanley a shooting percentage of 2.78% which we hope improves. In his first 13 games of 2015-16, Stanley put up just 16 shots and no goals.

Luke Green played only one of the two games for the Sea Dogs, recording an assist and 5 shots on goal. Green was in the starting lineup going into Saturday’s game, so I am still unsure what transpired that took him out of the game. 

Mikhail Berdin played one game for the Stampede this weekend, losing 6-0 to the Fargo Force. This is the 5th straight game that Berdin has seen 30+ shots, so at the very least he is getting plenty of practice.

Erik Foley, Matt Ustaski, and Jack Glover all had the week off from NCAA action.

CJ Franklin went pointless this week. Minnesota State was held to a single goal in each of their games against Bemidji State, losing one in overtime and the other in a shootout.

Tucker Poolman picked up two assists on Saturday against Denver. In both instances, Poolman fired a wrist shot causing a scramble in front where the puck ended up in the back of the net.

Mason Appleton played a big part in engineering a comeback win Saturday against Ferris State. Down 3-1 after the 1st period, Appleton scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd to cut the deficit to one goal. Teammate Joe Cox would score at 9:02 of the 3rd period and Appleton followed up with the game winner just over a minute later on the rush to take a 4-3 lead. Appleton leads Michigan State in goals, assists, and points. His 11 points in 9 games has him 4 points up on his linemates Villiam Haag and Taro Hirose.

Jacob Cederholm played two more games for IK Pantern and recorded an assist. The assist came on a very late dump in straight to the goalie that was mishandled and tapped in.

The Manitoba Moose dropped both games in San Diego this weekend, losing 3-2 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday. Despite the loss on Friday, Eric Comrie had a solid game, stopping 34 of 37. Chase De Leo scored his 2nd and 3rd of the season on Saturday and Jimmy Lodge potted his first of the season.

With Ondrej Pavelec struggling at the AHL level (now sub-.900 SV%), perhaps there is a move to be made to free up a spot for Jamie Phillips.

Axel Blomqvist recorded his 2nd goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Wichita on Saturday. 

Jamie Phillips finally recorded his first loss in the ECHL on Friday, allowing 5 goals in a 5-3 loss despite making 40 saves. Phillips also recorded another two wins; 31 and 19 save performances.
