The CHL regular season comes to an end, and NCAA tournaments are well underway in this prospect update.

Jansen Harkins played twice against Kamloops this week to end the regular season, but did not get on the score sheet. Harkins was named the Cougars’ Offensive Player of the Year. Prince George will meet the Portland Winterhawks in round one beginning Friday night.

Matteo Gennaro rounded out to an even 80 points, ending the season on an eight-game point streak. Gennaro recorded a goal and an assist on Friday, beating Kootenay 6-1 to clinch a playoff berth. The Hitmen awarded Gennaro with both the Leading Scorer and the Player of the Year awards. The Hitmen will play the Regina Pats in round one, beginning Friday.

Michael Spacek recorded five points this week to end the season at 85 points (30G, 55A), a fantastic improvement over his 2015-16 total of 54 points (18G, 36A). Spacek was awarded the Rebels “3 Stars Award” and “Leading Scorer Award”. The Rebels play the Lethbridge Hurricanes in round one, beginning Saturday.

Luke Green and the Sherbrooke Phoenix lost the last three games of the season and said goodbye to their playoff chances. Green had an assist on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to the Foreurs. Expect Green to sign an ATO and play out the season with the Moose.

Mikhail Berdin started two games this week, beginning with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Madison Capitols. Berdin stopped 36 of 39 in regulation and overtime, and stopped 5 of 6 shooters in the shootout. Getting the nod again last night, Berdin stopped 30 of 32 shots on his way to a 5-2 victory over Des Moines.

CJ Franklin and Minnesota State were eliminated last week. Franklin plans to return to school next fall for his senior year and complete his education.

Tucker Poolman and North Dakota beat Denver 1-0 to reach the NCHC Finals. In the finals, Poolman was injured after a hard check into the boards and left the game. North Dakota would lose 4-3 on a last-minute goal by Joey Anderson. Regardless of the outcome, North Dakota is ranked well enough that they will play in the NCAA Tournament beginning this Friday at 2pm against the powerhouse Boston University.

Erik Foley did not play this week, but Providence earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. They will play Harvard this Friday at 3pm. Harvard have not lost a game in two months.

Mason Appleton and Michigan State were eliminated in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament, losing 6-3 to Ohio State. Appleton’s assist gave his team a 3-2 lead at the time.

Matt Ustaski scored the biggest goal of his college career, tying the Big Ten Championship game halfway through the 3rd period. Wisconsin went on to lose in the second overtime period, and will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament.

Jack Glover played his first game since February 11th due to a season-ending injury to Ryan Lindgren. Despite an overtime loss to Penn State, Minnesota will play Notre Dame on Saturday at 2:30pm in the Northeast Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Pavel Kraskovsky and Lokomotiv knocked off CSKA Moscow four games to two. Kraskovsky scored the game-winner in Game Four last Tuesday in a 5-1 win, and opened the scoring in Game Six. Conference finals begin tomorrow, and Lokomotiv will take on the powerhouse SKA Saint Petersburg (Kovalchuk/Datsyuk).

Sami Niku is benefiting from an extended break prior to the start of Liiga playoffs. Game One begins today against HPK.

Jacob Cederholm was returned to HV71 after it became apparent that IK Pantern would not qualify for play in the SHL next season. Cederholm is currently playing for the under-20 team in the SuperElit playoffs. Below is a game he played with IK Pantern in the qualification round earlier this month. Cederholm was relegated to a penalty killing role at some point in the 2nd period, but here it is anyway:

The Manitoba Moose played three games this week; a loss, a shootout loss, and a win. The win against Rockford on Saturday is the first regulation win for the Moose since March 3rd… against Rockford.

On Tuesday night, the Moose were outshot and outscored in a 6-3 loss to the Marlies. Eric Comrie played the whole game, saving 29 of 35 shots. Brendan Lemieux scored his 12th of the year and Kyle Connor added two assists to his point totals. This would be Lemieux’s only game of the week, as he was injured in the 2nd period and left the game. Per Illegal Curve, it is a possibility it could end his season:

Friday night against Rockford, the Moose dropped a 2-1 decision in a shootout. Jamie Phillips started his fourth game (sixth appearance) and it was his best of the season, as he stopped 31 of 32. Unfortunately for Phillips, Connor, Roslovic and De Leo could not convert in the shootout. Roslovic’s former Miami teammate Anthony Louis scored in the third round.

The Moose recorded a regulation win in a rematch over Rockford on Saturday, winning 5-3 and outshooting the opponent 37-27. Kyle Connor (2 goals) and Jack Roslovic (1 goal, 2 assists) were named 1st and 2nd stars of the game.
