Jets Prospect Update | February 8, 2017

Michael Spacek and Matteo Gennaro continue to score, Jamie Phillips makes his AHL debut, and Erik Foley gets back on the score sheet in a big way in this week’s prospect update. Let’s have a look at how the week went!

Jansen Harkins and the Cougars had a tough week, dropping both games played against the Kelowna Rockets. Harkins was scratched from Tuesday night’s game against the Giants, and it is not known whether this is injury-related at this time.

Matteo Gennaro provided all his scoring Friday night on national television in a 4-3 overtime win in Vancouver. Gennaro scored the first Hitmen goal, assisted on the tying goal, and finished the game with an OT winner. He leads the Hitmen in scoring by 11 goals and 21 points.

The Prince Albert Raiders announced today that Jordy Stallard will miss the rest of the season following shoulder surgery. Stallard will hope to be ready for training camp next season.

Michael Spacek scored a pair of goals on Friday to go along with his three assists this week. Like Gennaro, Spacek leads his team in scoring by a good margin (13 points). His 64 points on the season is good for 17th in league scoring.

Luke Green had a quiet week, recording a shot on goal in each game played. The Phoenix were shut out 4-0 by the Remparts and lost 7-2 to the Tigres the following night.

Mikhail Berdin remains on the injured list for Sioux Falls. He has not played since January 21st.

CJ Franklin scored an empty net goal and added an assist on a clean faceoff win for a goal by undrafted free agent Daniel Brickley. Minnesota State and Alaska-Anchorage split the two-game series over the weekend.

Tucker Poolman scored his first goal since November 26th on Friday in a 3-1 loss to St Cloud State. North Dakota would bounce back on Saturday in a 2-1 OT win.

Erik Foley rebounded from a scoreless weekend in New Hampshire at the end of January, as he was in on all three Providence goals on Friday night. Foley started the scoring with his 9th of the season and added a pair of secondary assists in the 3rd period to steal the game away from Maine. He scored an empty netter to seal the deal on Saturday night for his 10th of the season.

Mason Appleton and Michigan State dropped both games against Wisconsin last week, with Appleton assisting on Rhett Holland’s first goal of the season. Matt Ustaski was held without a point in both games.

Jack Glover was scratched in both games against Penn State last weekend. He has not played since January 14th.

Pavel Kraskovsky was without a point last week in two games played. Kraskovsky only managed to win 8 of 28 faceoffs taken (29%).

Sami Niku contributed a secondary assist in a 5-1 win over TPS on Saturday, despite being held to no shots for only the fifth time this season. Niku had three shots on goal on Friday in a 2-1 win.

Jacob Cederholm re-joined HV71 and played a single game this weekend. Cederholm recorded a hit and 17:26 of ice time, his highest TOI of the season in the SHL.

The Manitoba Moose played twice this week, losing both games in regulation.

On Friday, the Moose lost 4-1 to the San Jose Barracuda. Eric Comrie put together a respectable perfomance, stopping 36 of 40 shots faced. Quinton Howden scored his 10th of the season to tie the game in the 1st period, but that was all the team could muster.

Jamie Phillips got the call for his first AHL start on Saturday, also against the Barracuda. The Moose scored first when local product Peter Stoykewych notched his fourth of the season from Kichton and Lemieux. Unfortunately, the Barracuda scored twice in the first and twice in the 2nd period for another 4-1 lead. Kyle Connor scored twice in under five minutes in the 3rd period, but it was not enough.
