Jets Post Game 41: Penalty Troubles

The Winnipeg Jets had a hard time staying out of the penalty box tonight, and that was an issue right from the beginning.
The Jets struggled on the penalty-kill, and the Arizona Coyotes were able to score three power-play goals on the night, and the Jets would lose by a score of 4-1 Thursday.
THE RUNDOWN
It did not take long for the Arizona Coyotes to get on the board in the first period, after Bryan Little would take a minor tripping penalty just 23 seconds into the opening frame. The Coyotes would convert quickly with Mikkel Boedker cleaning up the the rebound in front of a messy Winnipeg Jets’ net.
But the penalty troubles would not end there for the Jets, as Ben Chiarot would go off for hooking and then the Coyotes would extend their lead to 2-0 only 3:18 into the period, thanks to Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who received a nice back door pass, shooting the puck just above a sprawling Ondrej Pavelec.
The Coyotes would then take a couple of bad penalties towards the end of the period, and the Jets would head on the power play, a good opportunity to get back into the game and head in to the intermission with at least a goal on the board.
The Jets then converted on that opportunity, but the goal would be immediately waved off due to ”goaltender interference” from Blake Wheeler on Mike Smith. There would be no goal on the play, but the Jets were given another power-play, sending them onto the two-man advantage.
The two-man advantage was probably something they would like to redo, as it was a total mess. You know it’s a mess when you ice the puck when up two extra bodies.
But with two solid opportunities to convert and get back into the game, the Jets failed to do so and the Coyotes would take a nice 2-0 lead into the intermission after twenty-minutes of play.
In the middle, frame penalty troubles would still hurt the Jets because the Coyotes would extend their lead to 3-0 with Shane Doan converting on the man advantage tapping in a rebound past Pavelec. This would be the Coyotes third power-play goal of the game on five opportunities.
It has not been a good night for the Jets and the penalties are not helping them in anyway, obviously.
The third and final period of the game would see the Jets score their first and only goal of the game. Mathieu Perreault would finish a nice tic-tac-toe play from Andrew Ladd and Mark Scheifele cutting the Coyotes lead to 3-1.
But just a couple minutes later the Coyotes would get their three goal lead back with Boedker scoring his second goal of the game with a nice rush, sliding the puck past Pavelec.
The Jets would finish the game on the power-play, but they could not convert. Coyotes win this one, 4-1.
