Jets Nation Recap: Moose Errr Jets Lose In OT To Ducks

The Manitoba Moose Winnipeg Jets did their best to hang in there with the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday afternoon. In the end, the Ducks took advantage of a horrid defensive breakdown in overtime and skated away with a 3-2 win over the Moose Jets at the MTS Centre.

Game Thoughts:

  • Chase De Leo made his NHL debut and didn’t look out of place on a line with Nic Petan and Scott Kosmachuk. De Leo and Petan were teammates in Portland and they lit up the WHL during their time together. Jets fans would love to see those two achieve the same success in the Manitoba Capital like they did in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Paul Postma scored his first goal in over a year to open the scoring. The last time Postma lit the lamp was on December 11, 2014 against the Colorado Avalanche. Postma’s future with the Jets is uncertain so these games are important for him and his future with the team.
  • Once again, the Moose Jets power play was filled with misery and pain. The Moose Jets power play went 0/3 which included a man advantage opportunity late in the third period of a tie game. The Jets power play is so brutal, it is recommended that sensitive viewers turn away from the TV, during those two minutes.
  • Blake Wheeler ended a 10-game goalless drought with his 19th of the season in the second period. Wheeler has had his chances including hitting the post early in the first period. Bad luck haunted Wheeler so it was a relief to see him break the slump.
  • Ryan Kesler remains a Jet killer as he scored early in the second and then assisted on Jakob Silfverberg’s overtime winner. Kesler drove the Jets crazy during last year’s playoff series and once again, Kesler made his impact felt in a city where he once plied his trade.
  • Speaking of the OT winner, where was the Moose Jets defence? For some unknown and bizarre reason, the Moose Jets let Silfverberg sneak behind them and he ended up all alone against Michael Hutchinson. Somehow, Hutch made a miraculous first save but had no chance on the rebound. The Jets are bad. Plain and simple.
