Jets Nation Recap: Jets Come Up Short Against the Capitals

The Jets started the game looking pretty confident and like they could beat the Capitals. They dominated the Caps in the first period, bouying our hopes.
However, the 2nd period happened and the Jets struck out on the powerplay and were unable to hold back the Capitals. The result was the Jets went down 2-0.
Yet, all hope was not lost. Scheifele and Lowry both scored, tying the game. But, the Capitals were not done and with 30 seconds left in the game, Jay Beagle scored for the Capitals to put them up 3-2.

GAME NOTES

  • Lets talk about goaltending. Hellebuyck was excellent at times, making good saves and was positionally sound. However, there were a few moments where he was not up to snuff and these moments led to goals. Namely, Johansen’s goal and Alzner’s goal. He didn’t know where the puck was for Johansen’s goal and wasn’t set for Alzner’s.
  • The powerplays need to start cashing in. The Jets need to work on their powerplay configuration. Maybe change the net front presence from Lowry to Armia on the first unit? Add Laine to the first unit? Anyone got any other suggestions?
  • Ehlers was extemely dominant. He was looking shift, confident with the puck and was able to generate multiple scoring chances. There is no question, Ehlers was the best Jet tonight.
  • Armia looked good again. He had a nice drive to the Capitals’ net in the 2nd that almost resulted in a goal.
  • The injury bug strikes again. Add Shawn Matthias to the list of injured Jets. Maybe it’s Dano time?
