Game Notes:

• It looked like the Blues would finally shake the Jets curse early as Alex Pietrangelo opened the scoring with only 35 seconds elapsed. But the Jets did a good job in settling down the game as the period wore on. Even though they trailed at intermission, the Jets dominated possession and were on the verge of a breakthrough.
• That breakthrough happened early in the middle frame. 3 goals in 62 seconds put the Jets in the pilot’s chair. Laine started the onslaught as his laser eluded Jake Allen. Nikolaj Ehlers followed that 14 seconds later. Mark Stuart completed the barrage as his shot pinballed off a couple of Blues before it tickled the twine. The Jets kept the pressure on and even when Jori Lehtera pulled the Blues to within one, the Jets stayed focused and in control.
• The Jets sealed this one in the final frame as Mark Schiefele and Laine put the game out of reach. For Laine, it was a relief for him to regain his scoring touch. The rookie sensation had gone 5 games without a goal and had scored only once in 8 games. He’ll go through more trying times in his career but it was nice to see Laine do what he does best.
• Scheifele hit a personal milestone as he reached the 80 point mark for the first time in his career. It has been an excellent season for the Jets first round pick in 2011 and the fans hope there’s more next season from number 55.
• It was disappointing that Kyle Connor and Jack Roslovic were scratched from tonight’s game while Chris Thorburn and Brandon Tanev suited up. It’s even more disheartening when you discover both Thorburn and Tanev saw a mere 8 minutes of ice time and were a putrid 11.11% CF% and 18.18% CF% respectively. We know both Thorburn and Tanev aren’t good enough to be in the NHL. So with the Jets out of the playoffs, why not let Connor and Roslovic see some action instead of trying the press box popcorn. If this organization is about draft & develop, it needs to let the kids develop in the heat of the action, instead of  finding out which arena has the best hot dogs.
• The Jets have now won five in a row for the first time this season. Too bad it makes no difference when it comes to the playoffs. Where was a streak like this when the games counted?
