Jets Nation Recap: Horrendous Road Trip Ends With Bad Loss In Nashville

Game Notes:

• The game started rather OK. Dustin Byfuglien opened the scoring late in the first period as his point shot went off a Nashville defender and fooled Pekka Rinne. The Jets even outshot the Preds 9-8 in the opening frame. There were actual signs of hope.
• The second period crushed all hopes. Colin Wilson was left all alone at the side of the net as Buff screwed up on the defensive zone coverage, which left Wilson to easily finish a lovely feed from Mike Fisher to equalize. Just over a minute later Ryan Johansen’s power play marker gave the Predators the lead for good.
• A terrible boarding penalty by Brandon Tanev gave the Preds a five minute power play. The Jets did have chances shorthanded but couldn’t capitalize. The Preds got a break late in the power play as James Neal’s shot went off a clueless Mark Stuart’s stick and into the net. The Jets never recovered.
• The Preds scored twice more in the third as the Jets were clearly frustrated and started taking stupid penalties. Wilson and Johansen each scored their second of the game while the Jets were left slack-jawed and embarrassed.
• We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Chris Thorburn and Mark Stuart should not be on this team. Yes, they are great guys off the ice but they’re just not cutting it on the ice. Simply put, there are players in this organization (Chase De Leo for one) who deserve to be on this team ahead of them. Your only as strong as your weakest link. Stu and Thorbs are very weak.
• This wasn’t Big Buff’s finest performance. Even though he did score the Jets lone goal, he was responsible for two Predator goals and at times he looked lost and tired. Toby Enstrom didn’t play due to a family emergency which meant more minutes for Buff. Clearly, the Jets missed Enstrom and his return can’t come soon enough.
• Kyle Connor returned to the lineup after missing five games with an upper body injury. However, thanks to power plays and a lopsided scoreline, Connor only had 9:59 of ice time, the least among all the Jets. I’d like to see Connor with Nikolaj Ehlers again as those two had some chemistry earlier in the season. Make it happen Paul Maurice.
