Jets Hire Assistant Coach Pascal Vincent

 

 

While we all continue to breathlessly await the Jets logo reveal, the club announced today they have hired Pascal Vincent as assistant coach to Claude Noel. 

A former player, coach and GM out of the QMJHL, Vincent was highly decorated during his career with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, winning the Maurice Fillion trophy (top general manger) and the Ron Lapointe trophy (top coach) in 2007 and 2008 respecitvely. Vincent coached the team for seven straight years in total, finishing above the 40-win plateau wins four times. He went on to guide the Montreal Juniors the last two seasons before being snagged by the Jets.

The Vincent addition is in-line with the marked shift in the league over the last few years towards, younger coaches and executives leaping straight into the NHL after notable successes at lower levels. The Flames hired Dave Lowry after just one season as the Calgary Hitmen’s head coach for example. Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher was a head coach for three seasons in the QMJHL and just one in the AHL before being summoned by Steve Yzerman.

It seems as the league has begun to shift towards younger players on the ice, executives and decision-makers are beginning to follow suit behind the bench.
