Jets Draft 2013: Tucker Poolman, 127th Overall

I’m proud of myself for finding some Video of the man.

Tucker Poolman, D, Omaha Lancers, USHL

  • 6’2, 193LB
  • Shoots Right
  • 64 Games, 14G, 14A = 28 Points
  • NHL Comparables – Not Bobby Orr
With their 5th round Selection, the Jets selected Tucker Poolman, a Defenseman out of the USHL. At first glance, we can assume that Poolman has been the victim of many porno jokes throughout his life. Perhaps this is why searches of ‘Tucker Poolman Hockey’ resulted in a few Videos on Hockeyfights.com. Seems like Tucker has tired (HAD TO!) of all the name calling and developed into something of a beast of Defenseman.
He’s apparantly confirmed to University of North Dakota for next season, so looks like Jets management will get a chance to watch him develop AND go on a family shopping trip. Good times. UND has produced some solid Hockey players in the past (Jonathan Toews, anyone?) so it’s nice to see Poolman is going to a good developmental program for as many as 4 years before he’s Pro ready.
You won’t be surprised to find out that it was fairly hard to find information on a prospect ranked 172nd, as he was according to ‘Future Considerations’. But I was able to sniff out some comments from people who know Tucker Poolman as more than the perfect title for an adult film about rich female pool owners:
Future Considerations:
"a good-sized defenseman who patrols his own zone well…real upside is in his intriguing, but raw, offensive potential…if he’s able to put together his package, the reward is big."
Mike AIkens, former Omaha Lancer Head Coach:
"A lot of NHL scouts have been calling about Tucker, and a lot of them have been in the building this year. I think he could be a great later-round draft pick. He’s just scratching the surface of how good he can be."
Omaha World-Herlad:
"a reliable, steady player who also brings a solid offensive game. With his size and strength, expect Poolman to play in all situations."

SO?!?

This kid could be good. He’s also a 5th rounder, so he may never become a professional Hockey player and could well end up in porn. You never know – the Draft is something of a Crapshot.
Sounds to me like the Jets have selected a fair-sized offensive Defenseman with some potential upside. Never a bad thing to have. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last time we discuss Poolman at JetsNation.
