The Statistics
The IceCaps are on the final stretch of the year as they are preparing to wrap things up. Their playoff chances are shot and they are experimenting with new players in their roster. As a result all underlying statistics have dropped (except the shot differential gaps has closed slightly).
We can even see the trend of the team’s performance on the year to see where things went wrong:
… seems to be around game 1.
Friday’s 2-3 Loss vs Hershey
[ IceCaps Recap ] [ Highlights ]
With the 6th loss in a row the IceCaps had a chance to emerge the victors in this game. They outplayed Hershey, scored the first two goals of the game, but did not have the PDO to win as Hershey scored three unanswered goals in regular time. Joel Armia had his best game since joining the Winnipeg franchise with 1 point and leading the team in shots. Eric Comrie also played his first AHL game, stopping 28 of 31 saves. Not a bad performance, not worthy of a Quality Start but he did earn 3 stars on the night.
Saturday’s 5-1 Win vs Hershey
[ IceCaps Recap ] [ Highlights ]
A much more exciting game followed on Saturday and ended their 6 game losing streak. The IceCaps had a rematch against the Hershey Bears and dominated them again, this time the game went in their favour. On the offensive side of things everyone seemingly was involved in the scoring. Joel Armia once again lead the team in shots. The game was heavy in penalties, with the Bears earning 8 power play opportunities, 7 of which the IceCaps stopped. Eric Cormie had an excellect game posting his first Quality Start in the AHL.

Excellent start to his AHL career for Eric Comrie – no surprise as he has dominated the WHL for the last few years.
The Transactions
- Connor Hellebuyck was recalled to Winnipeg.
- Andrew Panzarella, an NCAA free agent face-puncher, was signed to an ATO with St. John’s. Never a bad way to try and find cheap depth for your team.
The Schedule
Final two games on the year for St. John’s and for this affiliation in Newfoundland. Both games are against Springfield, a team that is better at possession and has beating St. John’s in both their previous matches. After this weekend look to see some players join Winnipeg as they make their Stanley Cup run. In the mean time we should be able to see Comrie play 1 or 2 more AHL games.
