The Statistics
After a short week, despite earning a single win, the IceCaps did not see much movement in the standings or their underlying numbers. They continue to remain in 10th in the conference as they fight for a playoff spot but with just over 10 games remaining it’s going to be hard to make up that gap to 8th. Sports Club Stats currently has the IceCaps at a 0.6% chance of making the playoffs.
Friday’s 2-1 OT Win vs Albany
[ Highlights ] [ IceCap’s Recap ]
A low scoring game where everything went the IceCap’s way started off the week. The IceCaps outplayed Albany, Connor Hellebuyck stood on his head with to earn a Quality Start and St. John’s pocketed the goal to win in OT. Peter Budaj returned this game with the IceCaps in his back up role.
Saturday’s 0-2 Loss vs Albany
[ Highlights ] [ IceCap’s Recap ]
Albany came right back with a vengeance the next night. They outplayed St. John’s and, despite Connor Hellebuyck earning a Quality Start, the IceCaps did not have any bounces go their way and were ultimately shut out.
Wednesday’s 1-4 Loss vs Manchester
[ Highlights ] [ IceCap’s Recap ]
The final game of the week was against one of the top possession teams in the league, the Manchester Monarchs, who dominated the IceCaps. In net for the first time in a long while was Peter Budaj who played reasonably well but not enough to give his team the best chance to win. It certainly doesn’t help when the offence couldn’t score.
