The Winnipeg Jets start a four-game homestand against an opponent that has struggled both recently and when it travels out of conference.
The Jets are the -135 home favourite while the New Jersey Devils are the +115 underdog with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Jets are 6-6 in their last 12 home games against Eastern Conference teams with the total going OVER in nine of those games. The Devils are 5-12 in their last 17 away games against the Western Conference and the total finished UNDER in 12 of those games at sports betting sites.

The Devils are 3-5-4 this season and the total has gone OVER in six of their last seven games, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. New Jersey, which has an attack built around 18-year-old rookie center Jack Hughes and veteran left wing Taylor Hall, is 28th in the 31-team NHL in 5-on-5 shot-attempt percentage (45.82).
The Devils are a respectable 16th in goals scored (3.00) but are 29th in goals against (3.92). On special teams, New Jersey’s power play is 23rd (14.9 percent) while its penalty killing is 25th (75.0).
The Jets are 8-7-0 after winning the final two games of a western road trip in San Jose and Vegas last weekend, where the new first line of Mark Scheifele-Kyle Connor-Blake Wheeler was prolific, with Connor scoring or assisting on five of Winnipeg’s six goals. The Jets are now 15th in the NHL in 5-on-5 shot-attempt percentage (50.29 percent), which is noteworthy since they are allowing the fifth-most shots in the league at 33.7 per game.
Winnipeg is 22nd in goal scoring (2.73 per game) and 19th in goals against (3.27). The Jets have also moved sharpshooter Patrik Laine to his natural left side on the power play in hope of invigorating a 21st-ranked unit (15.7 percent). The penalty killing unit is ranked 30th (67.7 percent).
Jets No. 1 goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who has a 6-5-0 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and .927 save percentage, should be in line to start after Laurent Brossoit handled the Vegas game last Saturday.
The Jets will have a two-day break before hosting the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
