Winnipeg Jets forward @Andrew Copp opened the scoring in his team’s game against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday with a perfect shot from behind the goal line.
Copp picked up the puck at the left-side boards in the offensive zone and skated with it below the goal line before firing a shot that bounced off Red Wings goaltender @Alex Nedeljkovic’s shoulder and into the net.
@Evgeny Svechnikov and @Dylan Samberg assisted on Copp’s ninth goal of the season, with the latter recording his first National Hockey League point on the play.
Copp, 27, is a pending unrestricted free agent. He’s currently tied with @Mark Scheifele for fourth on the Jets with 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 34 games.
The Jets originally selected Samberg in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft. The 6’3″, 190-pound left-shot defenceman has five assists in 16 AHL games this season with the Manitoba Moose. He made his NHL debut in Thursday’s game against Detroit.
Winnipeg currently leads Detroit by the same 1–0 score through 20 minutes.
