The heritage 3rd jersey homestand continues tonight, as the Jets battle the visiting Boston Bruins. The Jets lost 4-3 to the Stars in Winnipeg on Tuesday, as an early 3-0 lead for the Stars was enough to eventually help them hold on to the lead. The Bruins have been playing some good quality hockey lately, winning 3 straight, and they’re 4-1-0 in their last 5 games. The 14-14-1 Winnipeg Jets and the 18-13-0 Bruins will clash at Canada Life Centre, two teams trending in different directions in the league standings.
The Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins have not yet played each other this regular season yet. Tonight’s game will be the first of just two matchups this season. The 2nd game doesn’t happen until March 19th in Boston. In their last 10 games against the Bruins, the Jets have only won 3 games, but all 3 of those wins came within their last 4 matchups.
The injury report for the Winnipeg Jets continues to remain at just two names. Hellebuyck is reportedly still recovering well, and he’s now just 1 week or so from returning as he was at practice yesterday. Haydn Fleury is still out of concussion protocol, and continues to practice with hopes of finding a spot back in the lineup.
The Bruins have four players listed on their injury report, all of which were added within the last two to three weeks. Matej Blumel has a lower body injury which has him placed on the long-term injured reserve, and Henri Jokiharku has an undisclosed injury and has been on the injured reserve since November 29th. Michael Callahan is out with lower body injury since December 4th, and Charlie McAvoy is on injured reserve since December 8th with a face injury. McAvoy hopes to return at some point during the Bruins current road trip.
Jets Projected Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Iafallo
Niedrreiter – Lowry – Vilardi
Pearson – Namestnikov – Perfetti
Toews – Barron – Koepke
Morrissey – DeMelo
Samberg – Pionk
Stanley – Schenn
Comrie
DiVincentiis
The unconfirmed starting goalie is Eric Comrie. Dominic DiVincentiis (the Jets backup) was recently recalled from the Manitoba Moose, but may not got a start before Hellebuyck returns with Jets games being spaced out before the Christmas break. After Comrie’s most recent appearance, he now holds a 6-7-1 record with a 3.16 GAA and a .892 SV%. The rest of the Jets lineup remains unchanged (from Tuesday night’s game) as of this morning. Stay tuned to the Jets official X/Twitter account for any late lineup additions or changes prior to puck drop.
Bruins Projected Lineup
Steeves – Lindholm – Geekie
Khusnutdinov – Minten – Pastrnak
Mittelstadt – Zacha – Arvidsson
Jeannot – Kuraly – Kastleic
Lindholm – Peeke
Zadorov – Aspirot
Lohrei – Soderstrom
Swayman
Korpisalo
The Bruins lineup might not look as good as their record shows on paper. There’s some “secretly” good talent on this team, which has led them to their somewhat surprising early season success. Looking at the Bruins’ player stats through 31 games, Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak lead the way with 32 points. Jeremy Swayman is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Swayman has been overall pretty good this season, holding a 13-7-0 record with a 2.67 GAA and a .913 SV%.
Jets player to watch: Kyle Connor
The Jets depth scoring is ever so slowing improving, but it’s still slacking throughout the Jets lineup. One of the few forwards who hasn’t moved around in the Jets lineup is Kyle Connor, who continues to carry the Jets offence with Mark Scheifele. Kyle Connor has 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 29 games, just 1 goal and 1 point behind Mark Scheifele. Connor, as a goal scoring forward does, continues to shoot the puck whenever possible, and he’s now already up to 101 shots on goal this season. The chances will continue to be there for Connor, and Jets fans continue to enjoy what Kyle Connor brings to this Jets team on a nightly basis.
Bruins player to watch: Morgan Geekie
On a team with not many big goal scoring names (aside from David Pastrnak), Morgan Geekie is the player excelling the most from the Bruins this season. Geekie wasn’t a goal scorer in the first few years of his career, but after scoring 33 goals last season with the Bruins, Geekie is on pace for another career high in goals. The Bruins forward already has 22 goals and has 10 assists for 32 points in 31 games. With a few young prospects in this Bruins forward group, Geekie continues to lead by example by putting pucks in the net.
Puck drop in Winnipeg is set for just after 7:00 pm CT. Tonight’s game will hopefully be similar to how the Jets played in the 2nd half of their last game against an elite Stars team. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look to end the Bruins current 3 game win streak with a victory at Canada Life Centre.
