This week in ‘contrails’ we consider the Jets new AHL affiliate, some good news for Mark Scheifele and the possibility of signing a checking center to round-out the depth chart.
– First order of business is the announcement of the St. John Ice Caps Winnipeg’s AHL affiliate:
“This name,” said IceCaps president and CEO Danny Williams, “will put us on the map across Canada and the U.S. This name and image will market not just our team, but also our province."
No word on whether Tim Hortons is suing for copyright infringement yet.
– The Jets somewhat controversial 7th overall pick Mark Scheifele was invited to the Canadian junior development team camp taking placed next week in Edmonton. Scheifele might not have been the uninanimous choice at 7th in June, but he remains a legit first round talent and will likely press for a spot on the club.
– If you missed Illegal Curve’s recent show on AM1290, they have both parts one and two available on their site. Highlights include discussion of the NIk Zherdev rumors, and interviews with Bruce Dowbiggen of the Globe and Mail and Geoff Kirbyson of the Winnipeg Free Press.
– Finally, Jeff Stevenson of Winnipeg Whiteout speculates that defensive centerman John Madden would be a good addition to the Jets bottom-six forward group.
That’s it for this week. If you see any Jets articles or links worth discussion in Contrails, feel free to notify me at kent.wilson@gmail.com.
