The Jets didn’t to deserve to win the game through the first 40 minutes. Fortunately for Winnipeg, they were able to mount a comeback in the last 20 minutes led by some unlikely heroes. From there, the Jets finished the comeback as Trouba netted the game winning goal in overtime.

They Said It…

Blake Wheeler on the expectations facing the Jets this season…
“It’s just about trying to find a way to unshackle our group, you know. It just seems like we are carrying a lot of weight, a lot of expectation and it’s inhibiting us from playing our game. So I thought in the third there was a little bit more freedom of how guys were moving and it just seemed like guys were breathing a little bit and playing the game.”
Ben Chiarot on his goal to begin the third period…
“There wasn’t much to it, the forwards do a good job of coming back so the D can stay up. So I was able to stay up on the blueline and just get one on net. It just had eyes and found it’s way in.”
And on his assist a few minutes later…
“It was great, you get on a roll like that. Get out there back to back, get feeling good and get into the groove and I was able to make a couple plays there and a nice finish by Scheifele. He was in the right spot with an open net.”
Scheifele on the being able to carry any momentum between seasons…
“I think we are sick and tired of talking about last year. It’s a new year and last year means nothing now. We have a new team, new players, it’s a totally different season and that’s the way we have to look at it. We have to battle for the team we have now and continue to build our identity as a group now until the end of the season.”
Maurice on shaking up his lines in the third period…
“Hadn’t had a whole lot going the way we would like to go so I think we woke a few guys up maybe or inspired a few guys. It was good.”
