The Winnipeg Jets went into Minnesota for their third game of the road trip coming off their first loss to a western conference team in the Nashville Predators
The Jets and Minnesota Wild would start the game in a tug-o-war going back and forth but the Wild would take edge first and go up 6-3 in shots before scoring the first goal of the game.
Alex Iafallo and the rest of the fourth line would get the Jets on the board 86 seconds later. With a good dump from Colin Miller and good strip, hit and pass from Rasmus Kupari the Jets. The Jets fourth line getting some points after doing their jobs correctly. This was Iafallo’s third goal of the season.
Look what happens when you work hard
The Jets were outplayed and ultimately outshot 23-7 in the first 20 and Connor Hellebuyck had to make some 10-bell saves and showed us why we have been calling for him to win his third Vezina trophy. The Jets would start to respond with some scrums towards the back end of the period, lead by Neal Pionk.
The Jets would start the second period on the power play and were unable to convert. After that they would continue to take wave over wave of Wild attack. The Jets would get under the skin of the Wild which is always something you like to see. If you can’t beat them at their game play mean and it’s working in the Jets favor along with Hellebuyck continuing to stop puck after puck.
The Jets would score the only goal of the period just after the power play. Hellebuyck would make a big save to prevent the short handed goal against. The Jets would move the puck down the ice, while Iafallo would get into a scrum with two Wild players.
You would then see the other four Jets each touch the puck, Nino Niederreiter would make a nifty little fore hand back hand and then found the back of the net giving the Jets their first lead of the night.
If you can't be them at their game, play dirty
The Jets would play with a much meaner streak in the second period and only suffer one penalty in the second. Haydn Fluery two for cross-checking. They would be out shot again but not nearly as bad this time only 17-13. The Jets would start to outplay the Wild in the final 7 minutes of the period after the El Nino goal.
The Jets would really only allow the Wild to get going once in the third period because of it the Wild only managed to take 1 shot before Iaffalo would score his second goal of the game on the power play.
Iaffalo would tip a Pionk slap shot on the power play. I get so excited seeing the second power play out on the ice. They score lots considering how little ice time they get.
Feeling so Gatsby 🌟
The Jets would shutdown the Wild to just 5 shots in the third and Adam Lowry would score the empty netter to finish the game. The Jets were wide awake for the third period would play their game. They are now 7-1-0 against the Central division with the 4-1 win over the Wild this season and give themselves a six point lead over the Wild in the division.
Also I like the first NHL game in 23 months from Ville Heinola can’t wait to see what he can do with this team if he can stay healthy. He did draw a penatly in the third he play 12:14 and 17 shifts and took two shots.
My Jets three stars are
Hellebuyck stopped 43 of 44 and had a .977 Save percentage
Iafallo scored two goals and was menace to give the Jets a chance on a goal. He scored his 100th NHL goal
Pionk- another night of being a menace and would pick up two assists.
