WWYDW: What to Do With the Most Obvious Draft Choice

May 4, 2016, 19:31 EDTUpdated:
Welcome to this week’s version of What Would You Do Wednesday where you are asked a question and debate among yourselves what the answer is. Unfortunately, the only prize you will receive will be the most Twitter mentions.
The Jets have one a draft lottery position. Would would have thought? As a result, this week’s WWYDW asks what to do with the Jets’ most obvious draft choice.
Patrick Laine will most likely be the player the Jets draft on June 24th with the 2nd overall pick.
Laine is a dynamic winger who can slot in on the left side of the Jets’ lineup. In 46 regular season games with Tappara of Liiga, also known as the Finish Elite league, Laine had 17 goals and 16 assists. In 18 playoff games, he scored 10 goals and 5 assists.
Patrick Laine has shown he can play against men. But can he play in the NHL?
If the Jets do call his name he could fill a much needed depth role, possibly playing on the power play to hone his offensive skills. Laine’s offensive skills could provide a huge boost to the Jets’ fledgling power play.
Assuming Lain can make the team, which I am.
Laine can also be sent to the AHL, similar to what the Maple Leafs did with Willie Nylander. However, Laine is physically more mature than Nylander at 6’4″ and 209 pounds.
What Would You Do Jets Nation?
If the Jets draft Laine, how do you play him? Do you throw him straight to the wolves and play him in every situation? Do you play Laine in sheltered minutes? Or do you send him to the AHL for the season to get used to the North American game? Or keep him with Tappara?
As always leave your answers and suggestions in the comments or on Twitter with the #wwydw hash tag and mention to @NHLJetsNation and/or me @canadiankyian.
