The Winnipeg Jets played a sloppy game against the Ottawa Senators, but were able to prevail and win 6-5. The Jets are back at it tomorrow night against the Canadiens, but first check out some highlights from tonight!

TALKING POINTS

  • Can we talk about how good Jacob Trouba is? Yeah, he had points tonight, but that isn’t what I want to focus on. He has the ability to make calm and smart plays under pressure. There were many times I thought he would have to turn the puck over, but he would make a smart pass for a break out or an entry into the Sens zone. He was greatly missed!
  • 3 goals for the Jets in the first. Wheeler scored a quick goal, so lets hope this sends him on a goal scoring streak. But, the big in the first was watching how unstoppable of a trio Lowry, Copp and Tanev are.
  • Details, details, details. The Jets made a bunch of cute plays that led to mistakes and led to the Sens getting a change to get back into the game. The Jets need to tighten things up come playoffs.
  • Connor Hellebuyck does not look too sharp. I don’t know if this is fatigue, a slump or injury, but Hellebuyck just did not have it tonight. Getting Steve Mason game ready is a must for success in the playoffs.
  • Mathieu Perreault finally scored. This is a guy who needs to get going for the Jets. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.
  • Tyler Myers seems to be a friendly giant. I do not know what was said in the scrum that saw him thrown from the game, but he definitely came out pissed and out swinging.
  • The Jets scored 6 goals tonight, so scoring isn’t an issue for the team. But, they had 5 goals scored against. That is the issue. Yes, Enstrom and Byfuglien are out for rest and recovering from minor injuries, but if they go down again in the playoffs, the Jets are in trouble.
  • The Jets are still good, had an off night, but they’re a-ok.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg – Andrew Copp: I liked Copp’s game. It wasn’t high skill, but it was hard work and cycling kind of game. He and the his line mates had a bunch of zone time. Copp also had a goal and an assist.
For Ottawa – Mike Hoffman: This was hard to judge because Matt Duchene also had a pretty good game for the Sens, but I have to give player of the game to Hoffman for the Sens. He was making nifty plays and displaying his rocket of a shot. He also had 3 assists tonight.

NEXT FLIGHT

The Jets are back at it tomorrow night when they square off against the Montreal Canadiens at 6:30. Steve Mason will hopefully be in net, as well we may see the debut of Sami Niku.
