JGD 52: Jets Look to Get Back on Top Against the Avalanche

The Jets almost
finished an abysmal game against the Hurricanes last night on top.
What could have been 4-0 ended up being 5-3. Today, the Jets face the
Colorado Avalanche in their latest back to back of the season.
Tonight’s game
against the Avalanche marks the first game of a two game road trip
for the Jets.
Lets see how the
Jets match up.
After last night,
expect the Jets to come out flying and looking for vengeance. The
game against the Avalanche is the fourth game of their five game
season series. So far, the Jets have dropped the first three contests
against the Avalanche.
Like the Jets, the
Avalanche have struggled with consistency this season, though not
against the Jets. The Avalanche have dropped both of their games
since the All Star break.
At least the Jets and Avalanche have something in common, they are still suffering from the cursed All Star break hangover.
Somehow, the
Avalanche have placed themselves in the playoff picture as they
currently sit fourth in the Central Division. The Jets sit in last
place in the Central Division at seventh.
Actually, what the
Jets have done is dropped so much that they are in a six way tie for
last place in the NHL. There have been whispers of the Jets competing to be the Tank Nation, but nothing has been confirmed.
However, no team
will openly acknowledge that they are tanking and the Jets will
hopefully try to put a show on tonight. After all, they almost came
back against the Hurricanes and had to have some team bonding
moments, right?
At least the Jets have Nik Ehlers to look forward to tonight. He led the Jets in Corsi differential 5v5 last night against the Hurricanes.

Winnipeg Jets (22-26-3)

One of the only bright spots of the Jets’ 2015-16 season has been the play of Nik Ehlers. Ehlers is riding a six game point streak, which includes a hat-trick. 
No sign of Paul Postma, yet. Hopefully he will draw into the lineup soon for a player who sounds like Stark Muart. 
On the bright side, Dustin Byfuglien is making a case for being re-signed by the Jets or he’s trying to up his trade value. But hey, he likes fishing.
Hellebuyck started against the Hurricanes, so look for Hutchinson to get the nod against the Avalanche.
Hutchinson has a GAA of 2.92 and a save percentage 0.904.
Colorado Avalanche (27-23-4)

All Star Matt Duchene has cooled down as of late, but he still has 3 points in the past 5 games. The 25 year old has had an excellent season thus far and looks to help the Avalanche into a play off berth.
Look for Semyon Varlamov to get the start for the Avalanche after being away for three games dealing with personal issues.
Varlamov is has a GAA of 2.59 and a save percentage of 0.918.
PREDICTIONS
Game Day Prediction: Unfortunately, I am have a bad feeling about this game. I think the Jets will continue their slide into the basement of the NHL and lose the game 3-1.
Obvious Prediction: Nik Ehlers will score the only go for the Jets on the powerplay, extending his point streak to seven games.
Not So Obvious Prediction: The Jets will score first, giving the team and fans some hope, only to have it by three straight goals on the powerplay by the Avalanche.
