Recently for the Jets…
The Winnipeg Jets are coming off of a shoot out loss against the Bruins. Connor Hellebuyck was unable to out duel Rask last game. However, the Jets have been able to get three out of four possible points on this road trip.
Bryan Little is will tie Chris Thorburn with 709 games played for the Jets/Thrashers after today’s game and 709 is good for most all time with the franchise.
If the Jets win tonight, they will at least be tied for first in the Central Division and depending on other games tonight, could be the sole owner of top spot.
Patrik Laine moved into sixth place for NHL scoring with 18 goals and 11 assists, while Blake Wheeler has been extremely hot recently with 13 points (three goals and 10 assists) in December.
Steve Mason will get the nod in net for the Jets.
Recently for the Islanders…
The Islanders have a deadly record of 10-3-3 at home part of this has to do with the Islanders’ potent offence. Currently, the Islanders are scoring 3.51 goals per game, which is good for second in goals per game in the NHL.
The top line duo of John Tavares and Josh Bailey are tied for the team lead in points with 45 each and that is good enough to be tied for second in NHL scoring.
However, the Islanders have been struggling recently with keeping the puck out of the net. They are tied for last place with Arizona, averaging 3.54 goals against.
Recently between both teams…
The Jets and Islanders do not have a lot of recent history but there are a couple of unique ties the clubs share. Obviously you know of former Jets captain Andrew Ladd, but the Islanders are also the team that drafted Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff in 1988 (16th overall) . On the ice, the Jets are 4-4-3 against the Islanders since they relocated to Winnipeg. Last season, the clubs split their two meetings with the Islanders winning big in Winnipeg on New Years Eve, but the Jets returning the favor a couple of months later in Brooklyn with a 4-2 win.

Gameday Prediction
The Jets will have their hands full containing Tavares, Bailey, Barzal and Eberle, but they will weather the storm and the Jets will beat the Islanders 3-2. Steve Mason will get the win and continue his improved play after a rocky start to the season.
