JGD 18: Jets Hope To Play to Their Own Tune

The Winnipeg Jets
head into Music City on a 4 game losing streak to face the Predators.
Today’s game against Nashville will be tough, but if the Jets hope to
prove themselves, they will have to dig in deep.
Lets take a look at
today’s game.
The Jets are coming
off a 6-3 loss to the Dallas Stars. This loss was heartbreaking
because the Jets ran into familiar issues; penalty trouble. The Stars
scored in the 14th minute of the game on the powerplay to
go up 4-3 and would score 2 empty net to put the nail in the coffin.
The Jets will have
to avoid penalty trouble against the Predators to have a real chance
to win the game. Nashville’s powerplay is ranked 12th and
their penalty kill is ranked 20th, but the Jets need to
avoid the box at all costs.
Nashville is coming
off a 2-1 shootout loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Defenceman
Shea Weber scored on the powerplay, so the Jets better watch out.
This is the first of
5 games played between Nashville and Winnipeg. Nashville currently
sits at 4th in the Central Division and the Jets are not
far behind in 5th place. Last season, the Predators won 3
of 5 games against the Jets.
Needless to say, the
Jets have their work cut out for them if they hope to win this game.

Winnipeg Jets
(8-7-2)

We are hoping Andrew
Copp is in, because this custom made graphic is sweet. If the Jets
are to be successful, they need more than their first line to
consistently produce. The last time the second line scored a goal,
was the Jets’ last win. Coincidence? No.

The Jets defence had
2 goals against the Dallas Stars and will need to continue to produce
while the forwards get their act together.

Paul Maurice did not
tip his hand at practice, but after starting the past 3 games and
allowing 4 goals in his past 2 starts, expect Pavelec to sit for
Hutchinson.
Nashville Predators
(9-3-3)

Nashville sits one
place above the Jets in faceoff win percentage at 28th
place. James Neal leads the Predators with 5 goals and 7 assists in 15 games.
One thing to note, the 5 of the top 10 point leaders on the Predators are defenceman and as a result, Nashville is 19th in goals for.
Defence:

Nashville has a
scary good defence. Everyone talks about Shea Weber, and for good
reason, but the most underrated defender on Nashville’s blue line is
Roman Josi. Josi has 4 goals, 7 assists and has averaged 24:49
minutes per game.
Goalies:

In 4 games against
the Jets last season, Pekka Rinne was 3-1-0 and had a goals against
average of 1.01 and a save percentage of .964. Expect him to start
for the Predators and hopefully the Jets can solve the Fin.

PREDICTIONS

Game Day Prediction:
The Jets will have a much better game and tighten things down penalty
wise, but still lose in overtime 2-1.
Obvious Prediction:
Pekka Rinne will put on a goaltending showcase with the Jets pelting
him with shot after shot.
Not So Obvious
Prediction:
Craig Smith will miss an empty net to win the game in
regulation.
