Looking to prepare for the upcoming 2021-22 season, which is scheduled to open on Oct. 12, the Winnipeg Jets made a trio of moves Sunday in an attempt to reduce their roster size down to 23 skaters.
First, the team announced that prospect @David Gustafsson, who was absent from Sunday’s practice, understandably, was assigned to the American Hockey League. As a result, the 6’2″ forward will open the regular season with the Manitoba Moose.
Secondly, the Jets also waived @Dominic Toninato and @Nelson Nogier, making each of them available to the rest of the league. If neither player is claimed after 24 hours passes, it’s expected they’ll each be reassigned to the AHL as well.
Following these roster moves, only 23 skaters remain in Winnipeg’s camp, which includes:
Forwards (13):
@Kyle Connor, @Andrew Copp, @Pierre-Luc Dubois, @Nikolaj Ehlers, @Jansen Harkins, @Adam Lowry, @Riley Nash, @Cole Perfetti, @Mark Scheifele, @Paul Stastny, @Evgeny Svechnikov, @Kristian Vesalainen, @Blake Wheeler
Defensemen (8):
@Nathan Beaulieu, @Dylan DeMelo, @Brenden Dillon, @Ville Heinola, @Josh Morrissey, @Neal Pionk, @Nate Schmidt, @Logan Stanley
Goalies (2):
@Connor Hellebuyck, @Eric Comrie
The Jets will open the regular season on the road against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 13 at 9 pm CT.
