Jets Nation Recap: Jets Start on the Wrong Kind of Streak

Jan 24, 2017, 23:34 ESTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
The Jets lost 4-3 to the Sharks tonight and this game was strewn with controversy. At least the third period was. There were also some good things that happened, the biggest being:
Pavelec mania (© @GameTimeArt) has died with this game.
Lets take a look at some other things that happened tonight.
Game Notes
- Patrik Laine returned to action after being out with a concussion. He and Nik Ehlers showed some chemistry with some nifty passing plays. As well, they were instrumental in helping generate Bryan Little’s second goal of the night.
- Bryan Little has been a force for the Jets. He scored two goals tonight, which puts him on a 4 game point streak of 5 goals and 2 assists. His first goal was a feat of strength, as he fended off Joel Ward to tuck the puck in on Aaron Dell on the backhand.
- The Jets may need to make a power play adjustment. Although the Jets were coming into tonight’s game with a 26.3% conversion rate on the power play, the Sharks PKers were able to take away space from the Jets’ power play. This was something Anaheim did the previous game and they thwarted the Jets’ power play as well.
- Unfortunately for Nic Petan, Andrew Copp looked pretty good on a line with Scheifele and Wheeler. We will have to see if this is a line Maurice will continue to pursue. But, 2 goals in 2 games is pretty good for Copp.
- Toby Enstrom hit a rut in the ice and crashed awkwardly into the boards. He Unfortunately left the game with an upper body injury and we have not received an update, yet.
- There was an iffy call by the Refs on Trouba, which resulted in a penalty shot and a goal scored by Melker Karlsson. As well, there was a no-goal reviewed and deemed no-goal by the situation room in Toronto. However, despite these unfavourable calls for the Jets, the Refs called a fairly even game. The Jets were just unfortunate in the fact that they were not able to capitalize on scoring chances, while the Sharks were able to capitalize on their chances. Please remember that Refs are human and even though they are refereeing at the NHL level, they are still prone to mistakes.
- Finally, the big one. The Saviour. The One. Ondrej Pavelec has fallen again. Pavelec had 4 goals scored on him, 3 if you don’t count the penalty shot. Pavelec has unfortunately shown that he is not the goaltender to carry the Jets back to the playoffs. Pavelec posted a .846 save percentage tonight.
