Good Evening Jets
Nation! The Jets played a tightly checked game against the San Jose
Sharks, but would end up losing 4-1. The score looks as bad as the
game was, though the last two Sharks goals came in the final minutes
of the third period
The Jets would fall
prey to penalties again, despite having a decent penalty kill for
most of the game.
Lets take a look at
the game while the Jets look for answers.

Email
The first period
started off very sloppily for the Jets. Within thirty seconds, there
was a Myers turnover which saw the Sharks take possession and try to
setup some scoring chances. Luckily, the Jets calmed down and go into
the game.
About halfway
through the first, Mark Stuart decided he was going to be most useful
through fighting Mike Brown and therefore taking himself off the ice.
Unfortunately, Toby Enstrom would take a holding call shortly after
Stuart’s penalty, putting the Jets on the penalty kill.
The Jets went on the
power play after a hooking call by Tommy Wingels, but the man
advantage would not matter as Chris Tierney would score after a
Dustin Byfuglien turnover. However, seconds after the Sharks scored,
Nik Ehlers would score after being set up by Drew Stafford.
In the final minute
of the first, Joe Thornton would pot a rebound in to the put the
Sharks up 2-1.
The second period
saw the Jets starting on the penalty kill after a last second
crosscheck penalty by Adam Lowry in the final second of the first.
To make matters
worse, right before the Jets finished off Lowry’s penalty, Mark
Stuart put the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty.
The Jets
successfully killed the four minutes of penalties, which saw a sweet
shorthanded chance by Adam Lowry as he was hit by a pass right as he
stepped out of the penalty box.
Despite having some
momentum from killing both penalties, the Jets were not able to
capitalize on any of there chances before the momentum dissipated.
Both teams were playing a tight checking game, providing only limited
chances.
Near the end of the
second, Captain Andrew Ladd and Sharks defenceman Brenden Dillon decided to try to
punch each other in the kidneys, or fight as they like to call it.
No goals were scored
in the second, with Jets fans hoping that the first two periods were
leading up for an exciting finish.
The third started
fairly slow, new line mates were acclimating to each other after some
line shuffling by Paul Maurice. Either that or the Sharks and Jets
continued to play a tightly checked game.
Much to the dismay
of the Jets fans, Mark Stuart took a roughing penalty, his third
penalty of the game.
To make matters
worse, the Jets were not able to score or produce any real momentum
or consistent scoring chances in the third.
And on top of that,
Tyler Myers was ejected for a cross check to the head of Tommy
Wingels and would put the Jets on the penalty kill for a five minute
major.
Do not read this if
you do not want to read about more bad news. Blake Wheeler stole the
puck and scored a short handed goal, but the goal would be called off
after it was determined Wheeler tripped Alex Stalock. This series of unfortunate events would put
the Jets on a 5v3 penalty kill for two minutes.
Joe Pavelski would
score on the 5v3 and the Sharks go up 3-1.
After the penalties
were killed, Connor Hellebuyck was pulled for an extra attacker, but
were not able to able to even up the game. Joel Ward would pot an
empty net goal for the Sharks to make the game 4-1.
The Jets dropped
their third in a row to the Sharks, leaving fans scratching their
heads for answers (and probably kicking a few things, though I do not
recommend this).

THREE KEYS
Nik Ehlers:
Despite the score of the game,
it was nice to see Ehlers show why he is one of the Jets’ prized
young players. He scored his seventh of the year on the power play
and had a nifty no look backhand pass to Mathieu Perreault, which
produced a scoring chance.
Penalties: Mark
Stuart had three penalties. The Jets had the game iced because of
undisciplined play. The penalty kill looked pretty good against the
sharks, until the last few minutes after Tyler Myers took a 5 minute
major after a cross check to the head of Tommy Wingels.
Mark Stuart: The
goal of this is not to be overly critical of players, but Mark Stuart
was not good. He had his typical turnovers, but he took three
penalties. Those penalties were six minutes the Jets had to play
short handed. Think of the scoring chances Winnipeg could have had if
they were playing 5v5 for those six minutes.
