The Winnipeg Jets (3-1) host the Anaheim Ducks (2-1) at Canada Life Centre on Friday, October 9, with three consecutive 3–2 victories behind them. Wins over Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Colorado put Winnipeg in position to make it four straight in the early stages of the 2026–27 season.
Josh Morrissey is out day-to-day with an upper-body issue after leaving Wednesday’s game against Colorado and not returning. Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed this morning that Morrissey will not play tonight. The Ducks will be without Troy Terry, who is out with a hip injury and on long-term injured reserve.

Tale of the Tape

Winnipeg beat Colorado 3-2 on October 7 despite being outshot 34-19. Kyle Connor scored twice, while Dylan Samberg and Mark Scheifele each picked up two assists. The Jets made enough of their chances to win, but that shot gap leaves room for improvement rather than suggesting they had control of the game.
Stuart Skinner was a major reason Winnipeg held on, stopping 32 shots and earning first-star honours on Wednesday night. He made 17 saves in the first period alone, including seven during Colorado’s power play. Through three starts, his 2.62 goals-against average and .920 save percentage give the Jets an encouraging early return in net. Connor also credited Skinner’s calmness and ability to read the play with giving Winnipeg confidence. Skinner is projected to start against Anaheim tonight on the strength of that recent play, but Winnipeg’s starting goaltender remains unconfirmed.
Scott Arniel saw some positives in where Winnipeg forced Colorado to attack.
“I thought we did a pretty good job of trying to deny the middle of the ice as much as possible. A lot of what they were getting was coming from the outside,” Arniel said after the Colorado game.
Generating more offence of their own would give the Jets a little more breathing room than they had on Wednesday.
Anaheim arrives after a 5–2 loss to Edmonton on October 7. Beckett Sennecke scored both Ducks goals on the power play, and Leo Carlsson had two assists. Edmonton did all of its scoring in the second period, when Lukáš Dostál stopped six of 11 shots before being pulled to start the third.
That was a rough middle frame, but Sennecke’s production is a reason not to overlook Anaheim’s offence based on the final score alone. For Winnipeg, staying disciplined would help avoid giving that power play extra opportunities.
