The Winnipeg Jets are now exactly Dylan DeMelo (2) days away from opening their 2026-27 NHL regular season at Canada Life Centre against the Boston Bruins. The Jets are also exactly 25 days away from hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. The long days of the NHL off-season are officially over, as we’re already one day into the regular season.
On Monday afternoon the Jets announced their opening night roster for the 2026-27 NHL season. On Tuesday the Jets announced which jerseys they will be wearing for each of their 42 home games this season. There’s some intriguing new names on the roster, and some hopefully new exciting jerseys on the way for the Jets to wear during their ‘hometown remix” and Heritage Classic games.
The official injury report for the Winnipeg Jets (which is now the IR) to open the season is just Elias Salomonsson. The Jets continue to have one name on their suspended list (Connor Hellebuyck), and at this point he’ll remain suspended until his trade request is fulfilled. Salomonsson remains slightly ahead of his recovery schedule (from his off-season shoulder surgery), and he could now be ready to return to the Jets lineup by mid-October rather than late October.
Jets *Potential* Opening Night Lineup (based on Wednesday’s practice lines)
Connor – Scheifele – Perfetti
Rosen – Bjork – Vilardi
Barron – Lowry – Lambert
Niederreiter – Namestnikov – Iafallo
Extra: Cole Koepke
Morrissey – DeMelo
Samberg – Pionk
Ferraro – Bauer
Extras: Fleury and St. Ivany
Skinner
Stevenson
The newest member of the Winnipeg Jets is Clay Stevenson, who will serve as Stuart Skinner’s backup to start the season. The Jets claimed Stevenson off waivers on Monday, after appearing in four games for the Washington Capitals in the 2025-26 season. Stevenson is a 27-year old undrafted left handed goalie, and although he may not be widely known around the league, Stevenson has some good numbers throughout his career in the ECHL, AHL, and five games with the Capitals.
Before this waiver claim was made, the Jets sent Domenic DiVincentiis and Brayden Yager to the Manitoba Moose. Both players should get a look with the Jets this season, but this move had to be made at this time in order to be compliant with the NHL’s opening night roster rules. Looking at the rest of the Jets 23-man opening night roster, there’s seventeen players on this active roster that have previously suited up for the Jets. Nine of the players were drafted by the Jets, nine of the players were acquired via a trade by the Jets, four were added in free agency, and Stevenson came from waivers.
Among the players that will make their Jets debut on Friday are goaltenders Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson. Connor Hellebuyck remains suspended and Eric Comrie is now in the Sharks organization, so the Jets will have a whole new goalie tandem to start the season, with two prospects in DiVencentiis and Milic looking to get a chance to appear in a game later in the season.
As for the eight defencemen, Jack St. Ivany comes from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade for David Gustafsson. Mario Ferraro was the Jets 2nd biggest free agency signing (behind Skinner), and will be a valuable member of the blue line in a shutdown third pairing role. Tyrel Bauer was drafted by the Jets in the 6th round of the 2020 NHL Draft, and has spent the last four seasons with the Manitoba Moose. Bauer is a 6’3″ physical defensive defenceman, and will serve as a depth defencemen to open the season as he looks to make his NHL debut in the upcoming weeks.
The thirteen forwards are mostly familiar names in the Jets organization. Isak Rosen was added to the team as part of the Logan Stanley trade last deadline, and it looks like after getting a limited role last season he’ll get his chance to showcase his offensive skills on the 2nd line to start the season. The other new Jets forward is their new top prospect, Viggo Bjork. The 8th overall pick from the 2026 NHL Draft was one of the handful of 2026 draftees to make their teams opening night rosters, and Bjork looked ready to make an impact in the league after an overall very solid pre-season.
Switching to jersey news now, as we now know exactly which jerseys the Jets will wear during each of their 42 home games this season. They’ll be a grand total of four different jerseys that you’ll see the Jets wearing at Canada Life Centre (and Princess Auto Stadium) this season: their primary home, their heritage 3rd jerseys, their new unknown hometown remix jerseys, and their special unknown jerseys for the 2026 Heritage Classic.
The primary home jersey will be worn for 26 of the 42 home games, including during the home opener against the Boston Bruins on Friday. The Jets will also wear their classic home jerseys for the 42nd home game of the season against the Canucks on April 9th. The fan favourite heritage “3rd” jerseys will be worn for seven games, including three times during the month of October, with the first time being on October 7th.
They’ll also be two new jerseys in the Jets home jersey rotation this season. All 32 teams will be included in the NHL’s new “Hometown Remix” jersey program. These jerseys are meant to celebrate the teams cities, fans, and local cultures of each NHL market. The Jets will wear this new jersey eight times this season, with the first time coming on November 17th against the Senators. This Jets jersey is rumoured to have a navy blue base with “northern lights inspired patterns and colours”. We’ll have to wait until the official reveal to see what that means, and that reveal should be coming in a few weeks from today.
The fourth and final jersey will be the special Heritage Classic jersey to be worn on October 25th against the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium. This jersey is also currently unconfirmed in terms of what it will look like, but there’s a few concepts floating around that could hint at the reveal. The Canadiens are rumoured to be wearing a throwback red coloured jersey, which would indicate that the Jets Heritage Classic jersey could be a white variation of their current “3rd” jerseys with a few minor changes. All four jerseys will be exciting to see in action, and Jets fans can expect some exciting new jersey news in the upcoming weeks of October.
