The Winnipeg Jets are now four games into their 2026-27 NHL regular season following a Amazon Prime “Wednesday Night Hockey” matchup against the Colorado Avalanche . The Jets are also exactly 18 days away from hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. This morning, the Jets and Canadiens unveiled their jerseys for the outdoor game, and the Jets will be rocking a white version of their current heritage 3rd jerseys. Following a second straight 3-2 win on Monday against (this time against the Penguins), the Jets returned home to Canada Life Centre to battle a divisional rival in the Avalanche.
Before looking at tonight’s Jets game, we need to go back and quickly recap what took place during the Jets 2nd road game of the season in Pittsburgh on Monday. The 1st period was a goaltending duel between Jets new backup goalie Clay Stevenson and Penguins “1B’ goalie Sergei Murashov. The first goal of the game didn’t come until near the halfway point of the 2nd, where Ben Kindel gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead with a deflection in front.
The 3rd period was where the Jets got their offence going, starting with an unassisted 1st goal of the season by Alex Iafallo. With 13 minutes left Adam Lowry scored his 1st of the season. Less than two minutes later, Declan Carlile tied the game back up at two, but just nine seconds later Cole Perfetti snapped home what eventually would be the game winning goal. The Jets held on to a late one goal lead for the second straight game, and Clay Stevenson picked up his first win as a Jet with an impressive 29 saves on 31 shots.
Tonight the Jets were back at Canada Life Centre for their 2nd home game of the season, looking to continue their season opening three game point streak. The Avalanche were getting most of the quality chances in the first, outshooting the Jets 17-6. Stuart Skinner made some great saves in the 1st, and Skinner’s strong start would be carried forward throughout the game.
The Avalanche did eventually open the scoring early in the 2nd period. Jaden Schwartz scored his first goal as an Avalanche with a well placed slapshot. Just over a minute later, Kyle Connor scored his 4th goal of this early season with a tip-in from in close. The Jets played much better in the 2nd, and both teams traded a few scoring chances in the next portion of the game. Cole Perfetti gave the Jets a 2-1 lead late in the 2nd period with a deflection in front, giving Perfetti his 3rd goal of a so far great start to the season for the “newly promoted” 1st liner.
Heading into the 3rd it seemed like the Avalanche should be in the lead this game, but Stuart Skinner stood tall in goal. The Avalanche continued to get chances before they eventually tied this game at two with around eight minutes left. Fedor Svechkov scored his 1st goal as an Avalanche with a low shot in front that snuck under Skinner. Just like every other Jets game so far this season the game was decided by one goal. That goal came with exactly one minute left, as Mark Scheifele set up Kyle Connor in front for his 2nd goal of night.
The Jets held on in the final minute for their third straight 3-2 win. Stuart Skinner was the star of the night (alongside Kyle Connor), making 32 saves on 34 shots. The whole 1st line was great again for the Jets, combining for 5 points on the night. Scheifele led all Jets forwards with just over 22 minutes of ice time, and Scheifele collected his first two points of the season (2 assists) after no points in the first three games. One unfortunate piece of injury news to keep an eye on is with Josh Morrissey. The Jets star defenceman left the game tonight with an upper-body injury to either his right hand or arm after he attempted to throw a hit and missed. Early indications suggest Morrissey will likely be just “day-to-day”, but we’ll need to wait for an official update post game.
The Jets will now have a day off tomorrow before a Friday night showdown against the Ducks at Canada Life Centre. This current Jets three game homestand will conclude on Tuesday when another Central Division opponent, the Minnesota Wild, are in town for a mid-week matchup.
