With fantasy hockey lurking around the corner, it’s a good time to talk about which players from the Jets you want to pick up in your draft.
Forwards are always in surplus, no matter what type of league you play. The key to picking forwards is to make sure they’re quality but also a bit gritty. Most leagues still count PIM as a stat so a player like Blake Wheeler is a wonderful pickup. If you’re thinking pure skill, Patrik Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Mark Scheifele. In deeper leagues, you might want to consider Mathieu Perreault. For him, I’d wait for the end of pre-season before grabbing him. He isn’t one of those players that will get snatched up quickly, so there is a chance for him to still be there in later rounds of a draft or as a waiver pick up. If he gets minutes like he did the end of the season, he’ll bolster your forward core.
Matty P. thinking about his options as well.
Defence is where you need to get creative. Again, for a pure skill situation, Jacob Trouba is a great pickup. For all around fantasy goodness, Dustin Byfuglien is someone you should try to grab. Josh Morrissey is a good choice in a deeper league. I wouldn’t personally go for him right away because he might lose a step, but it’s not a terrible pickup if you need someone.
Goaltending can be a problem as neither goalies are top tier, but you might find yourself in a situation where you need a second or third goalie option and that’s when I’d reach for Mason. Hellebuyck could be interesting, but it’s not sure how much he’ll play so maybe he’s another player you wait until after the pre-season to pick up as he should still be available then.

What Would You Do JetsNation?

So this all brings us to these questions; Who do you plan on trying to pick up? Do you have other sleeper picks we should know about? Do you plan on even playing fantasy this year?
