Giveaways have certainly plagued the Jets so far this season, as they currently sit fifth in the Western Conference with 66 turnovers. This past weekend in particular, the Jets gave away the puck 24 different times through two games.

While the Coyotes haven’t been a team to create a significant amount of takeaways this season, as they currently rank eleventh in the west in that category, the Jets can’t afford to continue to turn over the puck at such a high rate. During this game, the Jets will have to find a way to improve their puck security to keep the puck out of their own net.

Both forwards @Patrick Laine and @Mark Scheifele have led the way for the Jets’ offense to start the season. Even with Laine holding out until Sep. 27, that hasn’t prevented him from recording the best start of his career. Laine currently sits third in the league with eleven points, while his teammate Scheifele is tied for fifth as well. For Laine, his performance to start the 2019-20 season is something that Jets’ fans have never seen before.

Through seven games this season, the Jets are tied with the Predators for scoring the 2nd-most goals among teams in the west. All those goals have largely been made possible because of the impressive production from the Jets’ first line. With Laine and Scheifele tied with captain @Blake Wheeler for the team lead in goals, the Jets will need that trio to lead their offense once again in this game against the Coyotes.

So far this season, the Jets have been one of the most physical teams throughout the entire league. As it stands right now, the Jets sit atop of the west with their conference-leading 189 hits. It’s been evidently clear that the Jets are planning to utilize their strength to dominate on time of possession this season.

Compared to the Coyotes, the Jets should be able to overpower their team in the physicality department. Through four games this season, the Coyotes have generated the 4th-fewest amount of hits (73) in the league.

During Sunday night’s game against Pittsburgh, the Jets severely struggled during the powerplay. The Jets’ roster failed to convert on more than just one of their six chances with the man advantage. Overall, the Jets powerplay has been ineffective so far this season. As their 14.3% conversion rate currently ranks 22nd in the league.

Unfortunately for the Jets, the Coyotes penalty-killing unit has performed as one of the best through the entire league this season. Their unit currently ranks fifth in the league with an efficiency rate of 90.9% through four games. So, the Jets will likely continue to struggle on the powerplay during this meeting with the Coyotes.

Other than for their four goals in their victory against the Golden Knights, the Coyotes have been held to two goals or fewer this season. However, their three defeats have all come by just a single goal, which means this will very likely remain a close and tight game until the very end. If the Jets are able to produce offensively at even strength, then they should have no issues coming away with their fifth win of the season.
