The Race Is On: Working Overtime

The Jets needed a shootout to outlast the Boston Bruins while the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators took each other to a shootout as well. The St. Louis Blues needed overtime against San Jose and the Dallas Stars needed OT to live to fight one more day as well as all the Central division in action Tuesday night in some extra work.
Winnipeg’s win over Boston put them a point ahead over the Vegas Golden Knights in the race for second place in the Western conference. It also cut down the magic number needed to clinch second place in the Central and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
That number was helped along by the Nashville Predators who did give up a late third period goal to the Wild to tie things up, but ended up with the win in a shootout.
The Wild point helped a little bit as the St. Louis Blues overtime win against the Sharks helped not only get the Blues into a wild card spot for the time being, but it also cut the Wild lead for third place to three points.
The Dallas Stars finally picked up a win as well against Philadelphia and are keeping their very slim hopes alive. With five games to go however, they are going to need a lot of help.
The Ducks didn’t help themselves at all as they lost 4-1 to Vancouver and actually fell out of third place even with Los Angeles idle on Tuesday night. The Kings claim third by virtue of having more regulation wins with the same amount of games played as Anaheim now. The Ducks still hold on to that second wild card spot, but the Coloado Avalanche have a game in hand over Anaheim.
