Thanks to a combination of the St. Louis Blues putting a stop to the ten game win streak of the Columbus Blue Jackets as well as the Edmonton Oilers hanging on for a win over the Los Angeles Kings, the Jets Magic Number is now a single Jets win that they could get as early tonight against Nashville.

The Jets in fact have two clinching scenarios in front of them Sunday night.

If the Jets beat the Nashville Predators in any fashion, they’re in.

If the Jets lose to Nashville in extra time and at least earn a point, they need the Anaheim Ducks to lose in regulation to the Edmonton Oilers… If those two things happen, the Jets are also in.

The Nashville Predators by the way lost in Minnesota on Saturday night by a 4-1 score and suddenly after two losses in a row, the Jets could also get within four points of the Central division lead with a win on Sunday with seven games remaining for both clubs.

The Wild win was big for them as it kept them ahead of the Colorado Avalanche and St.Louis Blues who also won on Saturday.

The Avalanche defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout, so Vegas gained a point on Winnipeg in the race for second overall in the West. (Given how strong the Knights have been at home this season, it would very much be in the interest of the Jets to secure home ice should the teams meet in the Western Final.)
