We are just one month away from the 2022 Trade Deadline. With rumours swirling around the league of a few potential blockbuster trades being lined up, it might be fun to dig into the Winnipeg Jets’ trade deadline history and take a look at what they’ve done since rejoining the league in 2011-12.
During that time, the Jets have made 11 deadline deals, some have worked out, others didn’t fare so well in the North. Let’s break down each trade, as well as update you on where each player is currently at in their career.

2021

The Jets only made one deal at the 2021 Trade Deadline, they acquired defenceman @Jordie Benn from the Vancouver Cnaucks in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round draft pick (Connor Lockhart).
Benn played just eight games for Winnipeg to finish off the season, registering just one assist. Afterwards, he opted to enter free agency and signed a deal with the Minnesota Wild, where he currently has four points in 28 games.

2019

During the 2019 deadline, the Jets managed to stay quite busy, making six deals – the most they’ve ever completed at a single trade deadline.
It all started early when they traded @Brendan Lemieux, a conditional 2019 first-round pick (@Ville Heinola) and a conditional 2022 fourth-round pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for @Kevin Hayes. The stipulations on the trade were quite clear, the Rangers would only acquire a first-rounder if the Jets went on to win the Stanely Cup, of course, that didn’t happen though – or else Heinola would be a Ranger.
Hayes played 20 games for Winnipeg, registering 12 points (five goals, seven assists). He then signed a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he still currently plays. This season, Hayes has missed some time due to not only the passing of his brother, former NHLer @Jimmy Hayes, but also due to injury. Hayes has just 20 games on the season but has recorded nine points so far.
Later in the day, a few more trades trickled out. The Jets traded @Nicolas Petan to the Toronto Maple Leafs for @Par Lindholm. Lindholm never played a game in a Jets jersey. Petan is currently with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
Then, Winnipeg acquired @Matt Hendricks from the Wild for a 2020 seventh-round pick (Wyatt Schingoethe). They then made a small deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets as they acquired @Alex Broadhust in exchange for future considerations.
Cheveldayoff would remain busy as he sent a 2021 seventh-round pick (Braden Hache) to the Florida Panthers for Belarussian defenceman Bogdan Kiselevich, and then finished the day by dealing a 2019 sixth-round pick (Karel Plasek) to the Buffalo Sabres for defenceman @Nathan Beaulieu.
Beaulieu has now spent the last four seasons with the Jets. This year, he currently has one point in 19 games and has taken on a bit of a tougher role for the Jets.

2018

During the 2018 Trade Deadline, the Jets made just two trades. They first sent the signing rights to college prospect Erik Foley, a conditional 2018 first-round pick (@Rasmus Sandin) and a conditional 2020 fourth-round pick (Jack Smith) to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for @Paul Stastny. The result of the conditions ended up being that if the Blue signed Foley, the Jets would retain the 2020 fourth-round selection, but ultimately, St. Louis received that pick.
Stastny rode out the rest of the season with the Jets, scoring 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 19 games. Then, he signed with the Vegas Golden Knights in the ensuing off-season. After just two seasons in Vegas, Stastny made his return to Winnipeg.
Right now, he currently sits at 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 38 games and has proven to be a fantastic veteran addition to the club.

2017

The Jets made only one deal at the 2017 deadline, trading three-year vet Drew Stafford to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2018 fifth-round pick (@Declan Chisholm).
Stafford played only one season with the Bruins before joining the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18 for just two seasons, he’s since retired.
Chisholm currently plays for the Manitoba Moose, where he owns 19 points in 34 games. Chisholm also made his NHL debut earlier this season, playing in two games so far.

2012

The very first deadline deal the Jets made was on Feb. 27, 2012. They traded @Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2013 third-round pick (J.C. Lipon) and a 2013 second-round pick (Zach Sanford).
Oduya played four seasons with the Blackhawks and hoisted the Stanely Cup twice with the organization. Lipon bounced around between the AHL and the NHL, he now plays pro hockey in Sweden.
Sanford, on the other hand, never saw a game with the Jets, and after spending a few seasons with the Blues, he’s now with the Ottawa Senators.
