What looked to be a daunting two week stretch of road games has started off better than anyone could have imagined as the Winnipeg Jets have won their fifth straight road game and moved to 7-1-1 in November after holding on to a 2-1 win in Nashville on Tuesday night.

Patrik Laine and Nik Ehlers scored for Winnipeg and again Connor Hellebuyck was the big hero with 38 saves.

The Jets strike quickly, even quicker than they did against Tampa over the weekend as @Kyle Connor and @Patrik Laine combined to kick off scoring 18 seconds in.

After the goal the game settled into a steady back and forth contest with the Predators clearly looking to be the more physical of the two teams and the Jets doing well to not get sucked into taking bad retaliatory penalties. Winnipeg’s puck moving in the first period was pretty good and while they were behind in the shot clock 10-8 after 20 minutes of play, they had a 4-2 edge in even strength scoring chances. The only frustrating part was it felt like the Jets could have been more aggressive offensively and passed up on a few extra prime scoring chances.

Again another early goal as three minutes in a pretty passing / cycle play between @Mark Scheifele and @Jack Roslovic ended with a really nice pass onto the stick of @Nikolaj Ehlers who siped yet again.

As the period went on, the physical style that Nashville continued to play sure looked like it was getting to be quite effective as there were a few times that Winnipeg has troubles clearing their zone and giving up multiple chances. Shots in the second period were 13-7 for the Predators and high danger scoring chances were listed at 4-1 in favor of Nashville in the middle frame.

Yet for all the chances the Predators had, the goal that they scored in the second came as a result of a play that maybe could have been blown dead for icing, but wasn’t leading to confusion from the Jets and the Predators to take advantage.

Again like the second period, this game saw a lot of actual scoring chances for the Predators but no goals thanks to the work of Connor Hellebuyck who finished the night with 38 saves. Nashville out-shot the Jets 16-10 in the final period but that stat was deceptive in some ways because it wasn’t like it was a constant barrage of Nashville puck possession. Winnipeg had moments as well, but the theme of the night for them on offense seemed to be making one too many passes or holding on to the puck too long before either getting stripped of the puck or turning it over.

In the end, the Jets hang on yet again for another one goal win thanks in large part to ok defensive play and very good goaltending.

Early goals in the first and second period had Nashville chasing the game the entire way and when the defense did have their breakdowns, Hellebuyck was there to bail out the Jets.

The Jets get a day off on Wednesday and then take on the red hot Dallas Stars on Thursday. Game time in Dallas is set for 6:30 CST and the game as always will be on TSN 3 and TSN 1290.
