Don’t look now, but your Winnipeg Jets are 6-1-1 for the month of November and are two for two on this road trip as they complete a sweep through Florida with a very strong 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning thanks to a big 31 save game from Connor Hellebuyck.

First Period

The first was what many would call a “good road period” for the Jets against a Tampa team that had been on a roll as of late. To be frank, the Jets were probably the better team for most of it as they got off to a quick start 1:59 into the game thanks to a @Mathieu Perreault tip-in goal off of a @Josh Morrissey shot.
Shots in the first period were 9-7 for Tampa as the Lightning did pick up their physical play which seemed to catch the Jets off guard a bit, but scoring chances in the period were an even 7-7 as Winnipeg also did well to get 14 shot attempts.
As stated, the Jets were the better team for most of the first period, but it kind of fell apart near the end as Tampa Bay really pressed in the final two minutes of the opening frame and managed to tie things up with a last minute goal as Josh Morrissey set up another goal, but this one wasn’t as good for the Jets.
What is funny is that before the game if you had said the Jets were going to be tied 1-1 after one, most people would have taken it, but in this instance it felt like a blown chance for the Jets to put pressure on the home side.

Second Period

The second period was a story of the Jets taking some good proverbial punches from the Lightning and taking advantage of their own scoring chances. The shots were even 11-11 in the second as Winnipeg was able to take advantage of a couple of Tampa penalties to help gather some momentum and then score a couple of quick goals about 20 seconds apart.
Tampa for some reason challenged the goal – the NHL’s video review war room stating later that they were looking to see if there was a @Nikolaj Ehlers high stick that knocked down a puck and would have blown the play dead before the goal happened. The review didn’t fine anything worth overturning the goal, and thus Tampa was assesed a delay of game penalty that the Jets also scored on.
Winnipeg did have a @Dmitry Kulikov penalty that needed to be killed and again they saw a final minute of the period where Tampa pressed for a late goal, but this @Connor Hellebuyck was able fight off some tough chances against to keep the Jets two goals ahead.

Third Period

As you’d imagine, a two goal lead for Winnipeg on the road means that score effects take over some in the third period. Tampa led in shots 14-9 and had a 7-0 lead in high danger scoring chances. The Jets though managed to keep their two goal lead through most of the period when the craziness happened at the end.
With the Lightning having pulled @Andrei Vasilevskiy for an extra attacker, @Steven Stamkos made it a 3-2 game.
A minute after that, with the Tampa Bay net empty again, the Jets managed to do just enough to get the puck out of their zone and @Kyle Connor was able to flip home a long distance shot to give the Jets a 4-2 lead.
All well and good and we’re done here, right? Not exactly. Despite some heroics from Hellebuyck including an amazing glove save, Tampa still managed to get back within one with an @Anthony Cirelli goal.
Thankfully time ran out on Tampa and the Jets were able to skate away with yet another one goal victory.

TL;DR Why the Jets Won

They got good goalteding as per usual from Connor Hellebuyck, continued to have strong play from the third line of @Adam Lowry, @Andrew Copp and @Matheiu Perreault, and they did bend on defense, but they never broke as they started down a potent Tampa attack.

Jetsnation Top Gun

Who else? Ehlers was also good while Laine and Scheifele looked good together still, but with 31 saves, the Jets were able to grind out another win thanks to the efforts of their goaltender.
