The @San Jose Sharks may have been wearing their black “stealth” jerseys on Friday night, but it was @Connor Hellebuyck (with a little help from a late @Nikolaj Ehlers goal) who snuck into the Shark Tank and helped the Jets steal a 3-2 win to get back at .500 with a 7-7-0 record.

First Period

Not a whole lot happened in the fist period between two very fragile hockey clubs, but the Sharks did have a slight edge in shots and puck possession after 20 as once again the Jets struggled with zone exits and completing even the simplilist of passes.
Thankfully the Sharks are just as bad in their own end of the ice right now and the Jets were able to take advantage for one of the few times they found themselves in the San Jose end as @Kyle Connor stole an errant pass and fed @gabriel Bourque who didn’t make a mistake on his first Jets goal.
Shots were 11-6 for the Sharks, but the Jets got through the first period up 1-0.

Second Period

Want to know how the second period went? It was mostly this…
The Shark unloaded 28 shots in the direction of Connor Hellebuyck and while one got by him (technically two, but the second was waved off due to goalie interference) Hellebuyck absolutely stood on his head in the third period and was the only reason the Jets had a lead after 40.
The Sharks did tie things up as they caught the Jets on a bad line change and quickly got the puck up to streaking @Barclay Goodrow who sniped his fourth of the season.
The Sharks had thought they had taken the lead a few minutes after on a goal mouth scramble and @Evander Kane goal, but replay showed that Hellebukck’s left pad was pushed by a Sharks stick, so it was waved off.
As it always seems to be in hockey, one team’s misfortune turns into the other team’s lead as @Mark Scheifele and @Blake Wheeler finally showed some signs of life in giving the Jets the lead.
But really through the first two periods, this game was about one man…

Third Period

Funny TSN typo before the start of the third period…
It wasn’t 457, but it really felt like that. To start the third the Sharks picked up where they left off in the second and do tie things up…
The Sharks continued to be all over the Jets for the third period and again it was Hellebuyck that was saving the day. The best part about it was the fact that there really wasn’t anything flashy about his stops or highlight reel worthy. He had great angles, he played big in goal. He was simply outstanding.
And wouldn’t you know it – because this is exactly how hockey works sometimes – with under two minutes to go in the game, the Jets, which to their credit did get a few chances within the last five minutes of the game, got the game winner.
Bryan Little gets an assist on this and he now has a four game points streak. Jack Roslovic with tremendous work in the corner and @Nikolaj Ehlers is an absolute sniper right now and somehow Paul Maurice refuses to put him on the Jets top power play unit… But that’s a rant for tomorrow’s takeaways.
And just to put an exclamation point on the night, here is the 51st and final save from Hellebuyck as the Sharks had the goalie pulled and the Jets secured the victory.

TL;DR Why The Jets Won

Next Flight

The Jets get to fly to Vegas right after the game tonight (which is good because they needed to get out of San Jose quickly after stealing that win) and will take on the Golden Knights on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 9 PM CST and the game will be on Sportsnet and TSN 1290
