JNGD.S8.G49 Flight Plan: Jets Look To Break Carter’s Rookie Hart In Philadelphia

alt

After a a little over a week off the club they took with 10 other teams including the Flyers before the All-Star break, the Winnipeg Jets finally get back on the ice for proper NHL action. They remain tied for first in the Central division with the Nashville Predators but also have an incredible four games in hand on the Preds and two on the third place Minnesota Wild. With four games coming up this week, this is a great chance for the Jets to put some serious separation between them and their division rivals starting with the first of a back to back effort in Philadelphia.

Jets Player To Watch

Left Wing- #29 Patrik Laine

The Jets are in a pretty good spot as they start the unofficial “second half” of the NHL season, but they could really use a return to form from Patrik Laine who has only scored once in his last ten games played.

Last Jets Game

Two days after having earned an impressive win over the Nashville Predators, the Jets may have been a bit guilty of going on their bye week a tad early as they were sluggish through the first two periods in Dallas and couldn’t rally in the third.

Jets Notebook

  • The Jets are 11-5-1 against Eastern Conference teams this season and 7-2-0 against teams from the Metropolitan division.
  • The Thrasher/Jet franchise hasn’t faired well overall against the Flyers with a 19-34-9 record, but in recent seasons with the improved roster the Jets have handled things having won three of their last four games against the Flyers including a 7-1 win in their last meeting on December 9th in Winnipeg.
  • The Jets recalled Sami Niku from his week with the AHL Moose and he will be in the lineup tonight as Dustin Byfuglien and Ben Chiarot are still out with injuries.
  • Mathieu Perreault is two points away from 300 for his career.

Flyers Player To Watch

Goaltender – #79 Carter Hart

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
With the Flyers season floundering and multiple injuries to three different goalies, the Flyers turned to 20 year old Carter Hart to tend the twine. This time last year, Hart was helping lead the Everett Silvertips to a WHL finals appearance and the Flyers had every intention of keeping Carter in the AHL for at least the season. He posted a 9-6-2 record with the Leah Valley Phantoms while putting up a .902 save percentage.
There is little doubt that Hart was hopefully the Flyers goalie of the future and a final solution to the long time goaltending carousel in Philadelphia, but after a strong pro debut in his first handful of games, Flyers fans are suddenly hoping the future is now.

Last Flyers Game

Carter Hart made 33 saves in a game mostly dominated by the Canadiens who had gone into the game with a four game winning streak. A couple of quick goals in the second period sealed the Habs fate and helped propel the Flyers to their fourth win in a row.

Flyers Notebook

Philly.com: Flyers goalie Carter Hart has been plenty mature enough – Putting a 20 year old into the starters role of an NHL club seems like a big ask, but Carter Hart has handled it very well with a maturity beyond his years.
NHL.com: Simmonds a ‘heart and soul’ player for Flyers, says Giroux During the All-Star break, the Flyers all-star Claude Giroux sung the praises of one of the Flyers biggest trade chips.
Last Word On Sports: Radko Gudas Peforming Well For Philadelphia Flyers One of the Flyers most consistent defensemen this season has been… *checks notes* Radko Gudas?
