JNGD.S8.G32 Flight Plan: Jets And Hawks Renew Acquaintances In Chicago

alt

Since the Jets last played the Chicago Blackhawks three days ago, the Hawks since snapped their eight game losing streak with a win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
So the Hawks should be feeling a little bit better about themselves based on that and the fact that the recovered fairly well from an awful first period against the Jets in Winnipeg on Tuesday to make a game of things before bowing out in a 6-3 loss. The Jets meanwhile have won three in a row having just topped the tough Edmonton Oilers last night in an overtime win.

Winnipeg Jet To Watch

#55 Mark Scheifele – Center

Ho-Hum, another three point night last night against the Oilers with a goal and two assists. It was his sixth game this season where he’s collected three or more points. More recently, he’s picked up eight points so far this week with a three assist game against the Flyers and a goal and helper against Chicago on Tuesday and is now caught up to the team points lead with Blake Wheeler with 40 each.

Last Jets Game

The Jets had a 3-1 lead shortly into the second period and did cough it up, but a great third period got things tied up and after surviving a McDavid scare to start the overtime period, Josh Morrissey came back the other way to end the Oilers four game winning streak and keep the Jets streak alive at three.

Jets Notebook

  • The Jets sent defenseman Sami Niku back to the AHL this morning. He spent a little under a month with the Jets as the team stick handled through it’s injury issues and got in five games but was held point-less.
  • This is the fifth of 10 back to back sets for the Jets this season. Winnipeg is 2-2-0 so far in the second game of those back to backs.
  • More situational records you say? The Jets are 9-0-0 in games where they score five or more goals this season. The are also 6-1-0 in the month of December which is the second best record in the NHL.
  • Milestone watch: Adam Lowry is still one point away from 100 for his career. Mathieu Perreault will be playing in his 300th game as a Winnipeg Jet tonight.

Chicago Blackhawk To Watch

#17 Alex DeBrincat – Right Wing

The 21 year old right winger represents the next wave of talent that will likely help bring the Blackhawks back to relevance in the coming seasons. His rookie campaign last season saw him score 28 goals and 52 points in a full 82 games played and he’s picked up right where he left off in his sophomore season with 13 goals already in 33 games played. Even non-Hawks fans have to enjoy watching him play as he mixes speed with really good hockey sense especially on the offensive side of things with an above average shot.

Last Blackhawks Game

The Hawks finally came out with a strong first period and played better hockey than they have in weeks but still needed a 40 save effort from Corey Crawford to hold off the Penguins and snap an eight game losing streak.

Last Word On Sports: Chicago Blackhawks Passion is Missing – Old age and declining talent in what is a transition year for the Chicago Blakhawks are big reasons why the team has struggled, but a lack of fire may also be to blame.
