The Jets longest playoff overtime game in the history of ever ends in heartbreak for Winnipeg as they fall 5-4 in double overtime to the Nashville Predators who have now tied the series at 1-1.

First period…

The Predators come out on fire quickly and score 27 seconds in after the Jets make two critical coverage errors leads to a Ryan Johansen goal. The Jets though do settle in a bit and keep things even for most of the first period. The officials finally notice that the Predators do in fact commit infractions on the ice, so the Jets do enjoy a couple of power plays. It’s during the string of calls made that the Jets strike for a pair of goals – Dustin Byfuglien sneaks a puck five hole while the teams are 4 on 4, then after a Jets penalty expired to give them a man advantage, Mark Scheifele scores on the power play 29 seconds later. Patrik Laine nearly makes it 3-1, but rings his shot off the post. The shots after 20 end tied at 9-9.

Second period…

The Predators tie things up about five minutes into the period after a Bryan Little tripping penalty results in a P.K. Subban power play goal. It’s the second goal in which Hellebuyck was screened by a Predator jumping in front of him. The Jets think they re-take the lead after an Andrew Copp goal, but a split second earlier Matt Hendricks takes a cross checking penalty to negate the goal. The Predators do end up taking the lead after a bad Chiarot pinch leads to a Viktor Arvidsson rush and goal.

Third period…

Brandon Tanev continues to be a big factor in this series early on as he scores to tie things up, but 34 seconds later the Predators respond with a brilliant solo effort by Ryan Johansen to get past Tobias Enstrom and then put the puck past Connor Hellebuyck. After that, the teams play some fantastic back and forth hockey with both clubs getting some great scoring chances but not able to finish. The Jets press for the equalizer and get it with 1:05 left in the game with the goalie pulled as Mark Scheifele scores his second.

First Overtime…

A period mostly dominated by the Predators early on and then taken over by the Jets late in the frame as both teams had three or four near-misses each. Nashville’s misses being far more dramatic as Connor Hellebuyck was down and out a few times but the Jets defense prevented the Preds from getting that final shot at empty nets.

Second overtime…

The teams trade a few more chances before 5:37 into overtime, the Predators take advantage of a bad pinch and a slow change with Kevin Fialla scoring on a 2 on 1 chance.
