JNGD.R1G3 Recap: Back To Reality

The Jets were not going to go 16-0 in these playoffs and, the Wild are still a pretty good team, especially at home.
Both of these facts were confirmed tonight as Minnesota comes roaring back with a 6-2 win in game three.
TALKING POINTS
The thing most Jets fans will talk about for the next 24 hours will be the injury to Tyler Myers and what sure looks like a punch to the back of his knee as he’s falling by Marcus Foligno.
- Myers knee buckles the moment it’s punched, the question is… Was that punch intentional? My personal feeling? It is so, so borderline and I doubt it gets looked at any further by Player Safety. I don’t like the look of how Foligno’s arm thrusts forward there, but we’re also look at this in slow motion.
- The game itself? Ugh. Kudos to the Wild for coming out playing like they had something to prove because they sure did after two stinkers on the road.
- Ben Chiarot did not have a good game at all. Two bad penalties (we’ll talk about the officiating in a sec) and that seemed to completely take him out of the game. He had a couple of turnovers, blew coverage on a couple of plays.
- Poor Connor Hellebuyck. He had zero help in this game from his defense. As you’ll see in the heatmap below, the Wild had a field day with chances right at his doorstep and the defense was poor in clearing away traffic from the front of the Jets net. Steve Mason came in for mop up duty in the third period.
- Speaking of the third, Jets did a good job settling things down and just playing hockey in the final frame. They didn’t score, but they didn’t give up and they didn’t do anything moronic like the Wild did at the end of game two. That was a good reset period for the Jets and should be something to build off of for game four.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Jacob Trouba – Hard to find a Jet who had an overly good game, but Truoba was solid in an otherwise forgettable night for the defense as a unit.
For Minnesota: Mikael Granlund – Welcome the Wild to the series and especially Granlund who finally had a great game with a goal and assist.
