Sure it doesn’t mean anything in the standings, but it was sure nice to have Jets hockey back in our lives right? It was a pretty quiet game featuring a bunch of players still trying to shake off some summer rust. That went double for the refs who counted a Joe Morrow shot that rang off the post, but was counted for a mid-third period goal which ended up as the game winner for Winnipeg.

SCORING SUMMARY

HIGHLIGHTS

First Period

The Jets start the game a little bit on their heels as they take an early penalty, but pick up things in the second half of the first period, helped along by a goal by Marko Dano. The Wild actually out-shot the Jets 14-12 in the period.

Second Period

No scoring in the second period as the Wild continue to hold an edge in shots but Laurent Brossoit has himself a nice period, stopping all 12 shots sent his way.

Third Period

It doesn’t take long for Matt Hendricks to take advantage of a Jets defense that at times got sloppy in and around their net throughout the game as he tied it two minutes into the second period. Then things got a bit wierd – or ya know, weirder than Hendricks scoring a goal – as a Jets two on one rush was stopped, but there could have been an argument made that the puck did actually cross the goal line with some help from a Wild defender. A few minutes later, Joe Morrow rung a shot off the far-side post which was called a goal but replays would show didn’t cross the line at all.
The catch? No official video reviews in pre-season games. The “goal” counts and ends up being the game winner.

JN Players Of The Game

For Minnesota: Justin Kloos – Plenty of chances – nine shots on goal to be exact – including a couple of breakaways, but no finish at all.
For Winnipeg: Laurent Brossoit – 39 saves and looked pretty good – albeit against mostly AHL level talent. Promising start to his pre-season.
