JNGD.72: Dashing Dallas Dreams

Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry are back for Winnipeg’s Sunday night contest against the Dallas Stars, but the team isn’t quite sure if they’ll have Tobias Enstrom and it turns out Dustin Byfuglien could be a game-day decision as well.
After the morning skate, Paul Maurice confirmed the additions – and possible subtractions – to the lineup:

Dallas Stars (38-26-8)
@
Winnipeg Jets (42-19-10)

March 18, 2018 – Puck drop: 6:30 PM CST
Bell MTS Place – Winnipeg, MN.
TV: Sportsnet – Radio: TSN 1290

Recently for the Jets…

The Jets picked up a big win in their first home game back from a long road trip as they took out the Chicago Blackhawks by a 6-2 score. Winnipeg finally got a bit of that much needed secondary scoring as they got two goals from Kyle Connor and singles from Bryan Little, Joel Armia and Jack Roslovic. With the return of Lowry and Scheifele, the lineups have once again been mixed up a bit as Paul Maurice can now focus on getting more playoff ready than keeping a lineup together with rubber bands and silly string. Tonight he’ll have Lowry on the fourth line while Andrew Copp will center a line between Mathieu Perreault and Bryan Little.

Recently for the Stars…

The Stars are in a bit of a desperation mode as they are in a three team dog fight for the two wild card spots. They are coming off a pair of disappointing extra time losses – a shootout loss in Toronto and an OT loss in Ottawa- and have lost their last four games on this road trip they’ve been on. They still have a visit to Washington to come after tonight’s game. The Stars do have plenty if top end talent with Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Alex Radulov, but it’s their depth both on offense and on defense that has held them back.

Recently between both teams…

This is the fourth and final meeting between the teams and Winnipeg has owned this series this season and going back into last season. The Jets are 3-0-0 having picked up a 14-6 commutative score against Dallas. The Jets have won the last seven meetings between the two clubs and eight of the last ten. A lot is made of the fact Patrik Laine owns the Stars (and he does, 12 goals and 16 points in eight games played against Dallas) but Connor Hellebuyck’s numbers against the Stars are also strong. He has a 5-1-1 record with a .939 save percentage against Dallas.

Gameday Prediction

Dallas will be desperate, and while one would think they are due for a win against the Jets, Winnipeg will have a huge boost from a return of two – possibly three – of their regulars. Jets win 5-2.
