The Winnipeg Jets had a strong first period, but couldn’t carry that momentum forward and the Kings played as good a road game as a team could play in shutting down the Jets tonight by a 4-3 score.
TALKING POINTS
- Good first period for the Jets, but a lot of that might have had to be due to the fact the Kings had played the night before and looked a tad slow to start the game off. The Kings gave up far too many easy entries to the Jets in the first and the shots – which were 16-5 for Winnipeg in that first frame – was a great indication of just how poor they were.
- After that first period though, the Kings play in the neutral zone improved drastically and the Jets seemed to have issues adjusting. When you add that the Jets reverted back to more of their issues with exiting their own zone, the second period was almost all exclusively Kings possession and the Jets were a bit fortunate to be tied after 40.
- The Jets for whatever reason just seemed “off” tonight. Their passing wasn’t as sharp as it has been in recent games, they made questionable decisions. They also reverted a bit back to their lazy stick penalty ways – the Petan slashing penalty was just awful – and their penalty kill struggled again for a second game in a row.
- Give Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper some credit as well. After a shaky first period he played well and ended up stopping 30 of 33 shots faced.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Dustin Byfuglien – Good night for the big man with a goal and an assist. The two minors he took were not ideal, but truth be told it wasn’t like there was any Jet that did any better tonight.
For Los Angeles: Alec Martinez – I’ve always liked Martinez as a player. He’s a bit of a buzzsaw on the ice, always creating issues and can chip in with offense. He did that tonight with a goal and an assist.
NEXT FLIGHT
The Jets will get another day to enjoy the comforts of home before heading out on the road for the first time in forever as they will take on the St. Louis Blues on Friday night.
