For two periods tonight, Florida and Winnipeg played a pretty even game… And then the Jets did what the Jets have done all season: Get some great goaltending, start piling on goals and coasted to a 7-2 win over the Panthers.

TALKING POINTS

  • Hate to belabor this point, but how good would these Florida Panthers be with Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault on their roster? Oh what could have been. Ok, moving on from the Panthers.
  • Tough night for the penalty kill – it was the first time since December 16 that the Jets have given up two power play goals in a game. (stick tap to Jamie Thomas for that)
  • Great night for the power play with two more goals scored. Blake Wheeler’s passing is so precise and the challenge for every team that faces is what you focus on… Do you take away the Laine shot? Fine, you still have to deal with Scheifele’s shot. Take away those two shots, you gotta deal with Wheeler. Oh and Byfuglien is lurking on the point… Good luck.
  • That save by Connor Hellebuyck! My goodness. One can argue that it was a major turning point as it was a tie game at that point and the Panthers didn’t seem the same after it.
  • That acting job by James Reimer! My goodness. One can argue that it fueled the Jets to pile on a bit at the end of the game with the scoring.
  • Hockey is all kinds of fun isn’t it?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Blake Wheeler – Back to back PotGs for the captain. His passing is next level right now and you can add three more assists to his total. He has 51 for the season which is good for second in the NHL.
For Florida: Evgenii Dadonov – Really liked Dadonov’s game tonight. He was only credited for an assist, but he was in the middle of things on the Panthers second goal with some great eye-hand coordination and his deke and pass will get overlooked on Hellebuyck’s highlight save.

NEXT FLIGHT

The last game of the epic ten game home stand takes place Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Kings pay a visit to Bell MTS Place.
