Three nights ago, the captain of the Winnipeg Jets asked fans and media to “pump the brakes” when it comes to talking about how good this team is and it’s playoff future.
Tonight the Jets put the pedal to the metal and ran over the Colorado Avalanche in the process by a 6-1 score.

TALKING POINTS

  • What was not to love about that game? It’s one of those games you just sit back, enjoy and not be too critical of anything.
  • Wheeler gets a pair of goals to get him off his 15 game goal-less drought. Funny thing is that first goal was ugly as sin, but sometimes that’s all a guy needs to get things going again. The relief on his face said it all.
  • The big story coming into the game was the lines set up by Maurice and all four lines were great, especially the top two lines.
  • The power play went two for five which also got it off a bit of a slump.
  • Connor Hellebuyck stops 30 of 31 shots faced… And it was his 30th win of the season. His play tonight may get overlooked a bit, but it was a tight game early on and he made a series of key stops that would have given Colorado some life had they gone in.
  • How much fun was this game? Let this GIF of Buff be an indication:

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Blake Wheeler – One game after telling everyone to “pump the breaks”, he gets two goals and an assist and it’s hard not to do anything but think of how great he’s going to be in the playoffs.
For Colorado: LOL – Maybe to some guy named AJ Greer for wanting to go after Blake Wheeler and getting Dustin Byfuglien’s attention instead. Note to every NHL player: You don’t want Dustin Byfuglien’s attention.

NEXT FLIGHT

The penultimate game of this ten game home stand sees the Florida Panthers slide into Winnipeg for a Sunday tilt against the Jets. Start time of that game is 7PM CST
