It could have been better, but the Winnipeg Jets still managed a 4-3 win tonight against the Coyotes, so we’ll take it. This was one of those “playing down to the level of your opponent” type games that in past seasons I think would have burned other Jets clubs, but not this season.

TALKING POINTS

  • Defense and good goaltending seemed to be optional from both teams at times in this game, especially on the goaltending side of things. This is going to be a game Hellebuyck will gladly take a few lessons from and forget the majority of the rest of it.
  • Quite a game number 800 for Dustin Byfuglien huh? Multi-point night and over the last handful of games he’s really stepped up in the absence of Jacob Trouba. Buff is still going to have his moments where he will take a bad penalty or get out of position once in a while, but those are a couple of negatives you have to live with if you want all the positives that he also brings each game.
  • The Jets were maybe a tad guilty of letting up in the second half of the game and up by two, while the Coyotes dug in and started to use their speed a little more.  Winnipeg may have lacked some closing ability in the game, but give Arizona credit for playing a decent road game and giving themselves a chance to win.
  • Jack Roslovic scores again and I think his roster spot is all but assured even when the Jets get fully healthy (that’s a huge if mind you) .. Marko Dano and Nic Petan looked ok – Petan especially so, although the two minors he took will not help his cause.

SCORING SUMMARY

GIF HIGHLIGHTS

HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Dustin Byfuglien – Let’s give it to the big man for doing his 800th game played in style with a baseball style goal and a assist and typical strong defense.
For Arizona: Derek Stepan – Also had a goal and assist and was a general pain in the rear for Jets defensmen all night.

NEXT FLIGHT

Big challenge coming up next for the Jets as the St. Louis Blues come into town for a Central division clash on Friday night.
