JNGD.43 Flight Plan: They Gotta Beat The Sharks Eventually… Right?

The San Jose Sharks are a club that has seemingly always given this franchise fits. The ThrashaJets franchise is a lifetime 7-18-2 against San Jose which includes an on-going four game losing streak to the Sharks right now.
The good news is the Jets get just a little bit healthier today with the return of a veteran defenseman and maybe the time is right to pounce on a road-weary San Jose hockey club.

Recently for the Jets…

The team gets just a little bit healthier today as Toby Enstrom will return to the lineup as announced by Paul Maurice during Saturday’s practice. That pushes Ben Chiarot back into the pressbox and likely means Tucker Poolman will head back to the AHL club. The Jets have won four of their last five games coming out of the Christmas break and at least gained a loser point in Colorado despite the loss. Their last effort against Buffalo – which granted was a win – wasn’t exactly anything to write home about and they Jets will want to play a much sharper game today in comparison, or at the very least cut down on lazy stick penalties that dotted the game against the Sabres.

Recently for the Sharks…

Today marks the fifth and final game of the latest road trip that started in Dallas and has since gone through the eastern portion of Canada and it’s safe to say that the Sharks are happy to see this stretch of games come to an end as they’ve gone 1-1-2 so far, but the manner of those three losses have all been tough. They were pile-driven on New Years Eve by a 6-0 score to Dallas and while a 4-1 win in Montreal was a nice bounce back, they were robbed of a win thanks to Freddy Anderson and the Maple Leafs (as well as robbed of some of Joe Thornton’s beard) and then against Ottawa coughed up a 5-2 third period lead, ultimately losing 6-5 in a overtime. It’s been a microcosm of the Sharks season really, moments of great play where you’re reminded they could still be one of the best teams in the West, but hindered by stretches of disappointing play and very inconsistent goaltending. It’s been San Jose’s special teams – both the PP and PK ranked in the top 10 – that has been a standout for the Sharks and has kept them in the Pacific division race.

Recently between the clubs…

The Jets had been feeling pretty good going into San Jose back on November 25 after back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, but the Sharks snapped them back to reality with one of the more through defeats the team had suffered in a 4-0 loss to San Jose. the Jets have lost the last four meetings the clubs have had and five of the last six games which includes three meetings in Winnipeg.

Gameday Prediction

So in answer to the question posed in the headline.. They do. It’s a statistical inevitability that at day the Jets should be able to wrestle away at least one victory from the Sharks. The Sharks cant literally win them all, can they? Why can’t today be the day the Jets finally break the streak? I think it is in fact that day… Jets win 4-2.
