In case it wasn’t clear how we all felt about tonight’s 6-4 Winnipeg Jets win over the Nashville Predators, allow us to say it again…
Wow.
This game didn’t have a little bit of everything, but it had a while lot of a bunch of somethings. Two very talented teams that can light up a scoreboard, questionable if not downright head-scratch worthy officiating, stretches of hockey where it was tightly contested and other stretches where both teams just seemed to throw structured play out the window.
The Jets took a 1-0 lead and played a solid first period until the final minute when they gave up two goals to trail 2-1 after 20. Then they tied things up at two only to have the Preds score to take a 3-2 lead one minute and one second later only to score yet again 30 seconds after that goal to tie things up again.
Ehlers second of the night made things 4-3 before the end of the second. The Preds scored 30 seconds into the start of the third to tie things up. Nashville dominated play for the most part in that final frame, but Brandon Tanev scored with less than a minute and a half left in regulation on a seemingly harmless shot that should have never beaten Predators goalie Pekka Rinne.
After the game, many a fan and media member wondered out loud just how amazing a playoff series would be between these two teams.
There may not be enough heart medication in the world to help cope with such a series.
