It wasn’t a pretty start to the game, but it was a fine finish for the Winnipeg Jets as they were able to wrap up their three game road trip through America’s south-west with a 4-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes.
Everything that didn’t happen for the Jets last night in Vegas happened against the Coyotes. They got some clutch goaltending from Steve Mason who ended up stopping 29 of 30 shots faced and kept the Jets in the game early despite falling behind 1-0 after the first period. That sluggish first period could have been much worse for the Jets had it not been for Mason’s netminding.
The Jets also got a little bit of secondary scoring from Matt Hendricks who picked up his first of the season a little over the midway point of the game and roll your eyes if you must, but it did seem to give the Jets a little bit of a spark from that point on.
In the third, the top line for the Jets took over as they got goals from Scheifele and Connor and an empty net goal from Patrik Laine who now has five goals in as many games.
It was a righting of the ship against an ideal team for the Jets to right the ship against and now a 2-1-0 record on the three game trip makes for a happy flight home as opposed to what a 1-2-0 record would have.
